Andrew Taggart and Samantha Schneider both joined the Odyssey team on the very same day and today, we get to celebrate 8 years with both of them!

That's eight years of growth, problem-solving, plenty of spreadsheets, and helping make Odyssey Advisors what it is today.

A little Odyssey in the news 👀

Our President & CEO, Parker Elmore, recently presented the Town of Marblehead's 2026 OPEB results to its Select Board, looking at where the town stands today and what its OPEB costs could look like in the years ahead.

The conversation covered everything from rising healthcare costs to funding progress and the long-term impact of the decisions communities make today.

As Parker put it, every town is different, but planning ahead can help put future taxpayers in a better position.

Meet Kurtis Thompson! 👋

Proof that “detail-oriented” can look a lot of different ways.

At home, that looks like a library built book by book, a garden he’ll admit is more “organized chaos” than showpiece, and a backyard playset he built himself for his kiddos.

He’s also completely at ease in front of a crowd, which honestly tracks. Kurtis has a way of explaining things that just makes sense.

ACA Marketplace premiums could be headed for another double-digit increase in 2027.

According to a new KFF analysis of preliminary rate filings, insurers are proposing a median premium increase of 14% for 2027. If those increases hold, typical premiums could climb by more than one-third between 2025 and 2027.

What's driving the increase?

✔️ Rising costs for hospital care and physician services
✔️ Higher prescription drug costs, including GLP-1s and specialty medications
✔️ Changes in the Marketplace risk pool
✔️ Federal regulatory changes

It's another reminder of just how quickly healthcare costs continue to change, and why keeping an eye on the assumptions behind future healthcare costs matters.

🚨 Retirement Myth:

“I’m still working, so I can wait to enroll in Medicare.”

Not always.

If you’re working for a company with fewer than 20 employees, Medicare is generally the primary payer once you turn 65 with your employer healthcare becoming secondary. Delaying enrollment could leave you responsible for medical expenses your employer plan assumes Medicare would have covered.

There’s another wrinkle many people miss…

If you delay enrolling in premium-free Medicare Part A, your coverage may be applied retroactively. That can affect your HSA eligibility and potentially create excess HSA contributions if you’re still contributing.

Before your 65th birthday, it’s worth taking a few minutes to understand:

✔️ Whether Medicare or your employer plan pays first
✔️ How Medicare enrollment impacts your HSA
✔️ When you should stop HSA contributions (if applicable)

If you’re a small-business owner or plan to keep working past age 65, don’t wait until a claim is denied or a tax issue arises. Review how Medicare, your employer health plan, payroll, and HSA contributions work together before your 65th birthday.
