"The Federal Gift Tax Exclusion Increases:
You can give up to $16,000 per donee in 2022 ($32,000 per couple) without having to file a gift tax return or tap your lifetime estate and gift tax exemption. That’s up $1,000 from 2021. For example, if you are married with three kids and four grandchildren, you and your spouse can give each person up to $32,000 this year in excludable gifts. That’s $224,000 total. Annual gifts over the exclusion amount will trigger filing of a gift tax return on IRS Form 709 for 2022, but no gift tax will be due unless your total lifetime gifts exceed $12,060,000."
