Rafiki Beads is a social enterprise that aims to improve the lives of underprivileged women in the Masaai tribe of Kenya. In this region, women suffer from extreme gender inequality and do not have the ability to stand up against the oppression. Without the educational means or financial independence to improve their circumstances, these women are forced into a lifestyle involuntarily. Most women

endure the excruciating experience of female ge***al mutilation and are forced into arranged marriages, further continuing this cycle of female inferiority. The Masaai women have mastered this trade because it is tradition to learn it at a young age. Our mission at Rafiki Beads is to be a vehicle for change. We are providing a portal for these women to sell their jewelry in a market that they otherwise would not have access to. This creates a system where women can provide for their family without being dependent on others and achieving economic empowerment.
