Agribusiness, Food and Consumer Economics Research Center (AFCERC)

Agribusiness, Food and Consumer Economics Research Center (AFCERC) AFCERC provides analyses, stragetic planning, and forecasts of market conditions impacting domestic/global agricultural, agribusiness, and food industries.

On its 40th anniversary as a national and state-wide leader in the analysis of key agribusiness market issues, the Texas Agribusiness Market Research Center (TAMRC) at Texas A&M University is becoming the Agribusiness, Food, and Consumer Economics Research Center (AFCERC) with an expanding research purview and vision. While continuing the TAMRC tradition of providing timely, unique, and profession

al research on a wide variety of issues related to agribusiness markets, AFCERC will expand its research efforts to downstream markets with a particular focus on consumer health, nutrition, and food safety concerns. AFCERC will continue to reside within the Department of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University. Three faculty members will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of AFCERC: Dr. Oral Capps, Jr., Executive Professor and Holder of the Southwest Dairy Marketing Endowed Chair, Dr. Gary W. Williams, Professor and former Director of TAMRC, and Dr. Victoria S. Salin, Associate Professor.

Gig'em!

Texas A&M has been named the No. 2 most recognized U.S. public university and No. 8 overall in the 2025–26 Global University Visibility Rankings by American Caldwell.

πŸ… As the most recognized university in Texas and the SEC, this recognition highlights the strength of a community driven by purpose, guided by values and united by a shared vision for impact.

This meaningful rise β€” from No. 6 last year β€” is a testament to the dedication, integrity and innovation that define the Aggie spirit and shape our presence on the global stage.

Wacky Wednesday Faculty Appreciation Post:
Dr. Capps teaches our AGEC 105 Intro to Agricultural Economics. He first started his academic journey as a undergrad at Virginia Tech where he went on to obtain his masters and Ph.D. At Texas A&M he started as a lecturer and expanded his impact on Aggies through his research with the Southwest Dairy Producers, numerous seminars, and published journals. Additionally, Dr. Capps has been published for his work and started his own agri-marketing firm. He is a great example to students of the scope of opportunities in the agricultural industry.
We are so fortunate to have awesome faculty such as Dr. Capps! We are grateful for the lives you touch here at Texas A&M University.
