I’m diving into something new!

Well—not entirely.

Interviewing others and reviewing resumes has been something I’ve been doing for years now. But I wasn’t someone that actually had a weighing opinion on whether they could speak to a hiring manager.

So I’m exciting to do something new and different within in the talent field.

This is an opportunity for growth and to continue making a difference in the lives of others.

T’was an honor to be in the midst of giants (literally)

But seriously, I was so honored to attend a National Society of Black Engineers (Philadelphia Chapter) meeting!

I met so many brilliant engineerings, black students, and black professionals are excited not only about their professions—

But about community.

Despite not being an engineer, I thank for blessing me with an invitation.

I was able to learn more about ’s mission and the impact they’re having.

I was blown away by the resources and opportunities they’re providing for young people like grants and scholarships.

I can say I truly felt the love & unity there.

I was also able to learn a lot about Gilbane’s (company) amazing community-minded practices.

I felt really respected and valued b yNSBE because they allowed me to join in community discussion.

I feel beyond confident about contributing to NSBE in these ways:

⓵ Hosting, leading, an supporting more events for mid- to late-career professionals

⓶ Helping black folks with nontraditional backgrounds in the Philly area

⓷ Providing an outsider’s perspective on career transition

⓸ Helping document and promote community activities

I’ve been wanting to do this for YEARS, and it’s finally happening. 🥹

I finally have a co-working space for Haitian youths!

Haiti is a country filled with talented and bright young people.

But access to internet, electricity, and quality electronics is….challenging—to say the least.

As a huge proponent of working online and learning online…this is something that I wanted to bring to more Haitian people.

As a little background: my activities in Haiti was purely connected to evangelizing.

But while I was there, I saw this other area in which there is a big need.

It’s not giving sermons or preaching the Gospel.

It’s letting God work through me in a different way.

To be honest, when I wanted to organize a co-working space I thought I would have to buy computers and electronics for the potential members. I also thought I would have to find work for them.

But they came with computers and jobs on arrival. 🤣

Now, I realize that it was all about:

👉🏾 Building relationships!

👉🏾 Having a self-sacrificing attitude!

👉🏾 And developing myself as an entrepreneur.

Now, we’re working on “Haiti Project X”

Zuckerberg founded Facebook at 19. Jobs, Apple at 21. Jesus started ministering at 30.
People: “Chris, you’re too young.”

People are denied opportunities that they qualify for EVERYDAY.

“You’re too old.”
“You’re too young.”
And the biases go on-and-on.

Being 30-years-old is tough.

Something that I wish people took more seriously are: the skills, successes, and enthusiasm one possesses.

When I’m searching for clients, it’s true that I’m ALSO looking for things like age, experience, etc.

However! There are things that also make stand out to me:
-> Passion & Enthusiasm
-> Unique Work History
-> Modern Persona
-> Effort

People put me in a box 📦 , but I never want to do that to others.

There are always exceptions, outliers, freaks, A players, etc.

Also, I’ve never claimed to be a know-it-all.

But, rather, I fill in my gaps.

There’s 2 people I’ve seen in my line of work:

newer people who aren’t adapting fast enough, and people with a lot of success who are stuck in their ways.

I don’t want to be either of them. 🗑️

Why these 2 LinkedIn headlines will NOT get you a 💰100k+ job👇🏾
❌Looking for Job|Want a Job|Will Do Anything|
❌ |Great at Getting Results and Working Hard like Everyone Else|
Does your LinkedIn headline say exactly that? Hopefully not!

But what many of you DON’T UNDERSTAND is that although your LinkedIn headline doesn’t say these things EXACTLY….

This is what it looks like. 🤷🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

Most people who read this LinkedIn post will NOT make any changes🤦🏾‍♂️, and will continue NOT GETTING PAID higher salaries 💸.

So the best thing I can do is give you perspective.

As a recruiter, I’m looking for someone who:
✅ Can fill a specific position
✅ Has a specific set of skills (ex: narrowing the kind of Project Manager)
✅ Seems professional/pleasant
✅ Is more passionate about the work than the money

Most profile headlines don’t express those things well!

Why? 🤔

Because most professionals, NO MATTER HOW HARD THEY TRY, don’t understand recruiters or LinkedIn/social media….

But most professionals THINK they understand.

Now, I’m going to talk to the professionals that eventually get jobs DESPITE not having a ‘perfect’ LinkedIn profile…

There’s a recruiter working for a BETTER company that’s hiring for the same role/position…

With a HIGHER-salary job offer 💰💰🤑…

that skipped ⏭️over your LinkedIn profile. 🙃
