Promote Yourself #6: Ask for Testimonials

A testimonial helps close more sales by demonstrating how others have successfully used your product or service. It's best to contact new and repeat customers to request testimonials, preferably immediately after their having asked for assistance. Here are a few questions you can ask your customers to help solicit great testimonials:

If you were to recommend us to a friend, what would you say?

What pleased you most about our product or service?

What would have prevented you from buying our product or service?

Better Websites #6: Keep it Simple

An overloaded website will lose you visitors, but more importantly sales. Keep your content focused on the important stuff and concentrate on directing them through your sales pitch one step at a time.

Don't give your visitor more than 3 or 4 options at a time and simplify them -- make them easy to understand at a glance. A good example is www.colorado.gov, with their large Work, Live, Play options right at the top of the page.

Direct your visitor right into your sales process with a large area drawing their attention to how to get started. A great example of this is www.esurance.com with their large "Get a quote" section right on the main page.

A website busy with content and links makes your eyes glaze over and forget why you were there. A good example of what NOT to do would be www.illinois.gov, as they have tried to generalize topics and then also provide all the links under them, rather than presenting 3 or 4 general topics, which the visitor can then dig down into -- it's overwhelming.

We recommend reviewing www.colorado.gov and www.esurance.com in detail as two very good examples for you to follow.

Search Engines #2: Be Specific

The more general the information covered on your web page, the more you have to compete with other web pages. For example, a search on "flowers" returns about 592,000,000 web pages whereas "roses" returns 253,000,000 and "antique roses" returns 4,110,000 and "care of antique roses" returns 1,350,000, which is still a large number of web pages, so focus the content of your web page on very specific topics.

Statistics tell us that 75% of all Internet users will select from one of the first three listings found on a search, so it is very important to be listed under search terms that we will have at least some chance of being listed in the first page of results.

Research also shows that when consumers use more specific keywords that they are in the "Buying Decision" stage and that 3-5%+ will purchase your product or service.

We've been upgrading all our web hosting customers to our latest server technology, with the last few hundred customers being migrated over the next few days.

These new servers are four (4) times faster than our previous servers! We've accomplished this by reducing the number of customers per server, quadrupling the server bandwidth, doubling the memory, utilizing faster processors, and running on SSD (solid state disk) hard drives.

Get ready to be blown away!

Promote Yourself #5: Newsletters

Newsletters can help develop brand recognition and show that you are an expert in your field. You should focus your newsletter on providing helpful information, as well as, educating your audience about you and your product or service.
