Spencer was born and raised in Colorado outside of Colorado Springs. He has been riding since the age of 2 and grew up ranching and working on the state ranch that his mother grew up on and grandfather leased. At the age of 21 after a few years in Air Force he began working with his dad starting colts and working troubled horses for people around the west and mid-west. This is where Spencer, along
with his father's patience and guidance truly began his understanding of horses and the way of working with them not through by force but by understanding each one's individual needs and working from where the horse is coming from. Spencer also learned about the older Spanish ways of training a horse. Starting colts in a hackamore or snaffle and progressing them to a spade bit and making a finished bridle horse that is soft and quiet yet very lively and quick on their feet. Something that takes years of dedication and patience. Spencer has rode multiple times with accomplished horseman such as Martin Black, Buck Brannaman, Shane Jackson (of McGinnis Meadows cattle and guest ranch) and Marty Martin. Of course Spencer's best teacher has been his horses he's rode. Spencer has learned from all these great horseman that one is never done learning what a horse has to offer and how to make each one just a little bit better than the last. With traveling and living around different parts of the country working horses and ranching, Spencer has chosen to try and set roots in Colorado and run his own colt starting and horsemanship business. Spencer has the unique ability to evaluate each horse and client and do whats in the best interest for each one in different ways, whether it be western riding, english riding, or endurance riding. Spencer always keeps the horse in mind and wants them and their owners to succeed in whatever it is they do because that's what it's really all about.
