If you blinked, the time to trim fruit trees disappeared. That was the shortest window that we’ve ever seen. Now it’s on to watering even though its not time to fire up the sprinkler systems yet. It’s been extremely dry and your trees are going to be thirsty. Slow watering around the drip line of the tree in the evenings is best so it has all night to soak in. The drip line is at or near the end of the branches. That is where the smaller fibrous roots are generally located and it is the optimal place to water. Watering next to the trunk is really only affective on newly planted trees. Laying out a soaker hose over the drip line circumference is one of the most efficient methods and reduces runoff. Be aware that your evergreens are far more drought resistant than deciduous trees. Large deciduous trees will need far more water and water more often than evergreens. With high temps already and increasing utility bills, efficiency is going to be paramount this year.
