Today is World Mental Health Day.
It is a good moment to check in with the people around you, and with yourself.

Ask someone how they are really doing. Take the time off you have earned. Speak up when you are struggling.

Our industry asks a lot of people, and taking care of yourself is part of doing good work. 💙

Get to Know Jim Thiele: Part 1

Before he's National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA)'s new Vice President of Integrated Systems Contractors and before he's President of BW Secure, Jim Thiele is a husband and a family man. 💙

In this first video of our series, Jim shares what drives him:

✅ His family
✅ His work
✅ Giving back to the industry that has given him so much

He also gives a well-deserved shout-out to his wife, Dianne. After 43 years of marriage, she's been his biggest supporter through every stage: long days as an apprentice, building a business and serving in NECA leadership.

As Jim puts it, "success is never achieved alone." We couldn't agree more. 🙌
Stay tuned as we share more of Jim's story in the coming weeks!

October kicks off Cybersecurity Awareness Month 🔐 and we're starting with a simple idea: access control is a cyber control.

Every badge reader, keypad and biometric lock on your doors is a connected device on your network. That means your physical security system deserves the same attention as your firewalls and passwords.

Here's what we recommend checking this month:
✅ Firmware on controllers and readers is current
✅ Default passwords have been changed
✅ Access control runs on a segmented network
✅ Credentials for former employees are removed
✅ Your security and IT teams are talking to each other

When physical and cyber security work together, your people and your data are better protected. We're here to help you get there.

In classified environments, there is no such thing as close enough.

That can sound intense, and honestly it is. Government and defense partners are trusting you with information that matters, and they rely on facilities that hit the standard every single time.

What we have learned over the years is that this kind of trust is not won with a sales pitch. It is earned in the details. The precision of the construction. The discipline of the process. The willingness to do it right even when no one is watching.

Get those things consistently right and you become the partner people call back. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, and the one we help our clients meet.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and for us it is a good reminder that strong security is built on everyday habits.

Strong passwords, multifactor authentication, thoughtful access decisions and teams that feel comfortable asking questions.

Physical security and cybersecurity have always worked better together, and we are glad to see more organizations treating them as one conversation.

Here is to a month of good habits. 🔐

Budget season tends to get a bad reputation. Spreadsheets, meetings, the usual grind.

But we like to think of capital planning as something better. It is one of the few moments where leaders get to set the direction for the entire year ahead. Used well, this season lets you:
✅ Fund the priorities that protect continuity and trust
✅ Sequence projects so the budget breathes across years
✅ Tie every dollar to a real outcome
✅ Walk into the new year with a plan, not a wish list

That is a leadership opportunity, not just a finance task. If you want a partner to help shape your security priorities for the year ahead, we would love to be that for you.

If you have ever asked what ICD-705 actually requires, you are not alone.

It is one of the most important standards behind a SCIF, and it covers a lot of ground. At a high level, it shapes:
✅ How the space is constructed, down to the materials
✅ Acoustic protection so conversations stay inside the room
✅ Access control and intrusion detection
✅ The inspection and accreditation process itself

Every one of these exists for a reason, and skipping a detail early tends to show up later at the worst possible moment. The good news is that none of it is a mystery when you plan for it from the first drawing. That is the part we love helping clients get right.

Here is an uncomfortable truth about deferred security work. It rarely gets cheaper.

We understand the temptation. Budgets are tight, the project is big and pushing it to next year feels like relief. But waiting usually carries a cost that does not show up until later:
✅ Compliance gaps that compound over time
✅ Aging systems that get less reliable every month
✅ Higher price tags when the work finally gets approved
✅ Less flexibility once you are out of runway

Funding the right work now is not about spending more. It is about spending smarter and protecting your standing with regulators and partners. If you are weighing what to tackle this year, we are happy to help you think it through.

Today, on Patriot Day, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11 and to honor the first responders and everyday heroes who ran toward danger to protect others. Their courage still inspires the work we do.

We remember, and we are grateful.

If you are wondering when to start planning your 2027 security budget, here is our honest answer. Now.

We know that feels early. The year is not over yet, and there is plenty already on your plate. But a lot of organizations close their fiscal year in October, which means the decisions that shape next year are happening sooner than most people expect.

The leaders who get ahead of it are the ones who help shape the numbers instead of fighting over what is left. They walk into budget season with priorities ready and a clear story to tell.

A little planning now buys you a lot of leverage later. If you want help mapping your priorities before the window closes, we are here for it.
