Stop Wasting Time on Checking Email

I found one of the biggest time-sucks for me has been marketing email. There are numerous software solutions out there that provide email addresses for people and businesses. Not to mention that when you buy something online, you usually find yourself “blessed” to be on their email list.

How many times a day do you look at your phone because it dings, only to find it to be a marketing email for a product or company you care nothing about? Try this: rather than just swipe away the email, open it, scroll down, then unsubscribe from it.

You know you succeeded if you get ANOTHER email informing you that you have been removed from the email list. Life is full of small ironies. “Unsubscribes” tell the company that their content stinks and it needs to be better.

Think the 4 seconds to swipe the email isn’t important? Remember that modern day phones are designed to keep you looking at your phone. Marketing emails can cause your attention to drift to another app or dopamine hit. I’d rather spend my 4 seconds picking up food off the floor to eat. (Is it the 5 second rule, or the 3?)

Tomorrow starts the last weekend before the normal ebb and flow of adult life returns. This week’s housing payment served as a reminder to that vaguely remembered existence before the holidays.
If you’re an entrepreneur and business owner, it’s incredibly important that you have a plan come Monday (Jan 6).
Here’s my advice to you. Take 15 minutes this weekend and write down:
1. What is the MOST IMPORTANT thing I can accomplish professionally before January 10th?
2. What do you need to accomplish on Monday to set the table for achieving that goal by the 10th?
3. Your reason for doing this.
I use a template to prioritize my activities that lists:
a. Object
b. Who is involved
c. Complete by When
d. WHY it’s important
It’s important to hold ourselves accountable to action items and see them through, on time.

If you’re feeling squirrely, do this for the Month of January with milestones every week to get to your goal by Jan 31.
