SO MANY DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES ARE MET WHEN A BABY IS ON THE FLOOR AND ON THEIR TUMMY

This illustration and explanation gives important details of why floor and tummy time are important for development and building strength. Here's what you can find on Mommy Academy:
Development, strength and milestones happens on the floor!⠀
⠀
Tummy time helps build so many muscles, sensory outputs and skills that they will need to get to the next milestones in their motor development journey.⠀
⠀
Don't skip this step - it's the foundation for everything!

⠀
Tummy time helps build:⠀
✨Balance (vestibular sense)⠀
✨Neck & back muscles⠀
✨Visual tracking⠀
✨Arm & wrist strength⠀
✨Core strength⠀
✨Flexor muscles⠀
✨Spinal strength⠀
✨Familiarity with gravity⠀
⠀
Mommy Academy goes into this in detail in Remarkable Infants with lots of tips on how to bring in more play to make this a more enjoyable experience for your little one.

Happy Holidays to our community of amazing providers!

As we gather with our family and friends while secretly assessing every adorable little one above the age of 9 months using a pacifier, please find comfort in knowing that you are not alone!

Here's an article shared through another page (Thanks Robyn Merkel- Walsh) to give us something to ponder during the season of wonder.

This retrospective case-control study is the first to examine the spatial conformity between pacifiers and palates in 39 preterm infants (12 females, 27 males) and 34 term infants (19 females, 15 males), taking into account the facial-soft-tissue profile ...

"What if I was to tell you that a game of peek-a-boo could change the world?" asks seven-year-old Molly Wright, one of the youngest-ever TED speakers. Breaking down the research-backed ways parents and caregivers can support children's healthy brain development, Wright highlights the benefits of pla...

Container Syndrome is a term used to describe the lack of skill in infants who are not allowed ample movement opportunities. Container Baby Syndrome is the result of an infant being placed in a container for an excessive amount of time during the day. This extended time leads to structural, movement, and behavioral challenges as a result.

Baby containers include baby equipment and items such as:

👣Restrictive playpens
👣Crib
👣Car seats
👣Strollers
👣Bumbo seats
👣Bouncy seats and swings
👣Rockers
👣Nursing cushions
👣Vibrating chairs
👣Jumpers
👣Exersaucers
👣Positioning pillows
👣Slings
👣Floor seats
👣Infant swings
👣Walkers
👣Jumpers

All of the time spent in these baby containers adds up! When in a positioning device such as the ones listed above, little ones are limited in the motor development that results from stretching, wiggling, turning, reaching, and otherwise moving.

Maternal mental health is an important consideration when determining how to best support the dyad and help them to succeed. https://www.technologynetworks.com/neuroscience/news/moms-socialization-not-biology-shapes-child-brain-activity-359962?utm_content=215819640&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&hss_channel=fbp-479163965435700&fbclid=IwAR36dZvDAyXs_RKFf5WGZG0PCiWK9KZ1U37IfaYniSfRK8xU8hhxHIyxdGM

A new study has indicated that the higher risk of depression associated with a maternal history of depression may be related to parenting behavior rather than a biological predisposition.

Drum roll please....

Research on the subject of airway structure vs function confirms what we teach during our OraLase courses. This article was shared by Darick Nordstom on the Lightwalker and ALF-FACES Facebook groups with this quote from him:
"For too many years we have fought for function, against the simple-minded volume model, and in this Evidence Level 3 study, there was no correlation between size and oxygenation, as would be expected by the physiological science that consistently emphasizes the body's ability (and need) to dynamically modulate the 'airway' dimension. "Oxygen saturation and apnea/hypopnea index were not statistically significant. No correlation was found between total airway volume, oxygen saturation, and apnea/hypopnea index changes between the time points examined."

Attention BabyLase providers: History of prior or recent infection is another great screening question to add to your intake forms to help you determine dosing and treatment sequencing with our without the consideration for surgical intervention.

Researchers have discovered that infection can increase a baby’s sensitivity to pain, which may last longer than the infection.
