Hey y’all! Wanted to share this in case it pertains to you!

If you or your family use the Claude AI Chrome extension (the helpful AI sidebar in your browser that can read webpages and do tasks for you), there’s been a security issue that could let bad guys trick it.

What’s the Risk (Easy Version)?

Clever attackers could make the AI think their sneaky instructions were coming from you. This might let them quietly access things like your email, files, or other info - without you noticing. It’s like someone whispering bad commands to your helpful robot assistant.

Good news: The main problems have been fixed in newer versions, but it’s smart to check!

Quick Actions to Stay Safe:

1. Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions/
2. Find “Claude” and check the version number (look for something like 1.0.41 or newer - update if possible).
3. If you don’t use it much, consider turning it off or removing it for now.
4. When using it: Stick to trusted websites, review anything the AI wants to do, and avoid it on important accounts like banking or work.

🛡️ Protect your home, family, and personal information with these straightforward cybersecurity tips. No nonsense - just simple steps anyone can follow.

⬇️ Here are quick examples for each tip ⬇️

1️⃣ Strong Passwords or Passphrases - instead of ‘password123’, try something like ‘MyBlueDogLoves2025!’ or ‘CoffeeAndSunshineEveryMorning!’. Use different ones everywhere and a password manager to keep track.

2️⃣ Turn On Extra Protection (2 factor authentication/ 2FA) - when you log into your email or bank account, it sends a code to your phone. Approve it to stop thieves even if they guess your password.

3️⃣ Keep Devices Updated - when your phone or computer pops up ‘Update available’, install it after these often fix security holes.
💫To add a little context here - I don’t typically recommend installing updates immediately, due to unforeseen issues that can come from them, BUT with how rarely most people update their devices - this recommendation would likely be safe since some time has usually passed and corrections made to any flaws in an update.

4️⃣ Watch for Tricks (Phishing) - ignore an email saying ‘Your bank account is locked — click here to fix it’ or a text with a strange link claiming you’ve won something. This should be a no-brainer, but it’s easy to be swept up with urgency and excitement.

5️⃣ Secure Your Home Wi-Fi — Log into your home WiFi router (usually at 192.168.1.1) and change the default password from something like ‘admin’ to a strong custom one only your family knows.

6️⃣ Make Backup Copies — Copy your family photos and important documents to a USB external drive or services like Google Drive/iCloud once a month.

• Set up strong parental controls on phones and tablets (Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link, etc.).
• Use device-level filters, screen time limits, and app restrictions.
• Enable safe search, monitor activity, and have open conversations about online rules.
• Consider family media plans and supervision, especially for younger kids.
