While advancing technologies are automating increasing amounts of the business world, management, employee development, and decision-making continue to require human expertise.

To keep pace with the rapidly evolving corporate sector, managers must not only stay up to date with the technologies themselves, but also must improve the accuracy of their decision-making. And research shows that strengthening their emotional intelligence can help them do just that.

Are you unknowingly stifling your team's innovation and progress?

Last year Aperio published a groundbreaking study confirming our ability to forecast entrepreneurial success or failure based on five derailing behaviors. These findings apply to managers and entrepreneurs alike.

Many companies cultivating entrepreneurial mindsets among their teams focus on hiring employees who demonstrate characteristics they associate with entrepreneurship, such as creativity and resourcefulness.

But a study we completed last year revealed that it's far more critical to focus on employees' derailers than it is to focus on their positive traits.

Derailers are unconscious counterproductive habits. These often unintentional habits fly under the radar and chip away at a team's effectiveness little by little. While they're fairly unobtrusive on a small scale, derailers can snowball into an avalanche effect.

In her latest article in the Harvard Business Review, Kerry Goyette shares research-based steps to mitigate derailers that hijack individual and team success.

What is EQ³? And why does it matter?

When most people think about emotional intelligence, they often focus on the first two components (the self and relationships), overlooking the critical third (the environment).

EQ³ is a holistic look at emotional intelligence. It takes the self, relationships, and the environment into consideration. It examines how you are influencing your environment and how it's influencing you.

Your workplace environment has a huge impact on your employees. The culture, the organizational processes, and the office design are impacting the quality of their work on a daily basis. So it's worth your while to take a closer look!

The World Economic Forum named emotional intelligence as one of the most essential career skills in their latest "The Future of Jobs" report.

But what implications does EQ actually have? Leaders with higher EQ's have more engaged employees, resolve conflict more effectively, and can help their employees navigate challenges with greater ease.

In an interview with Don Rheem, Kerry Goyette shares how leaders can strengthen their EQ, yielding benefits for themselves and their entire workforce.
