Nine thousand acres. No bridge. You get there across the water or you don't get there.

On June 5, 2026, seventy two of us crossed to Sandy Island for The Community Table, hosted by the Gullah Preservation Society of Georgetown with Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies and Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor National Heritage Area. Concept developed by Harper and Regina Ciphrah. Verbalizing Visions led the evaluation and made the films.

I am grateful to facilitate a meaningful learning experience with this dynamic group of educators from New Providence Island, Bahamas during their visit to Columbia SC hosted by the ICAN Center. Today is Day 1 of 3 of the “Curriculum to Careers: A STEM Conference for Secondary Educators–Staying Ahead of the Industry.” https://contactezradavis4.wixsite.com/my-site-3

Verbalizing Visions worked alongside the ICAN Center to kick off the conference with opportunities to explore innovative learning environments and workforce-connected pathways with STEM Day at The Capitol, Silicon South/Compass Labs, Hahn Automation, and the Mechatronics Training Center at Midlands Tech Northeast. These field experiences were designed to allow educators to see what is possible and consider how similar ideas may be adapted within their own school communities.

I wish our Bahamian colleagues safe travels home, energized with new insights, strengthened networks, and inspiration that will continue to shape student opportunities in the Bahamas!

Learning becomes powerful when curiosity meets opportunity.

Grateful to Jane Dever who invited me to spend time at the Clemson University P*e Dee Research and Education Center to observe their team in engaging elementary students in agribusiness wonderings, hands-on exploration, and early career awareness. Experiences like this help students see that STEM is connected to the land, food systems, and the future of their communities.
