There were many old things lying about, Raggedy things with chips and cracks in every nook and cranny.Things that had been new and useful, but now just lie around taking up space that new things could hold. One would think to throw them out and make room for the new. But they hold a special part of someone. Knowledge, history, maybe memories of good old times. For old time sake, kept. In the South, public schools were not common during the 1600s and the early 1700s. Affluent families paid private tutors to educate their children. Public Schooling in the South was not widespread until the Reconstruction Era after the American Civil War.
