This afternoon, home building industry professionals from across the Midlands gathered for the Building Industry Association of Central South Carolina Building Codes class covering the changes and modifications to the 2024 International Residential Code (IRC) set to take effect in SC for permits applied for starting 1/1/27.

From floor assembly fire protection to wall assembly details, our members are staying ahead of the curve to keep building safely, efficiently, and up to code.

A huge thanks to Andy Barber for teaching today’s session and sharing his expertise with our members.

Just a few weeks ago, South Carolina’s home building industry took its case straight to Washington.

Members of BIA of Central SC and our partners from across the state made the trip to the nation’s capital to sit down with South Carolina’s congressional delegation delivering a clear message: housing affordability matters to every family and community back home.

We had the opportunity to discuss the housing supply crisis, immigration’s impact on the construction workforce, and the regulatory burdens threatening new home production across the Midlands and beyond. These aren’t abstract policy debates, they’re kitchen table issues for the hardworking builders, tradespeople, and industry professionals we represent.

A highlight of the trip? A personal tour of the United States Capitol courtesy of Congressman Russell Fry, including a stop in the breathtaking National Statuary Hall and a view from the Capitol balcony.

A big thank you to all of our members who made this trip a priority. The work doesn’t stop at the state line.
