Stop making HR the enemy.
HR is not supposed to be the department people fear.
Strategic HR should be the bridge between employees and the business, not a wall between them.
Yes, HR has to protect the organization. That means policies, compliance, documentation, and consistent decision-making.
But protecting the business should never mean removing empathy from the process.
Good HR understands both sides.
Employees are people, not just names on a schedule or payroll report. They need clear expectations, fair processes, and sometimes guidance before discipline.
Businesses also need consistency, accountability, and decisions that support long-term operations.
That balance is the point.
When HR only protects the business and forgets the people, that is not strategic HR.
When HR only sympathizes with employees and ignores business needs, that is not strategic HR either.
The best HR does both.
It listens. It documents. It guides. It holds people accountable. It helps managers lead better. It helps employees understand where they stand.
If your employees see HR as the enemy, the problem may not be HR itself.
The problem may be how HR is being practiced.
At C.W. Business Advisory Group, I believe HR should be a tool for clarity, consistency, accountability, and trust for both the business and the people who keep it running.
