Recently attended the American Tree Farm System's National Leadership Conference in Vancouver, Washington.

This conference was a great opportunity to connect with other tree farm inspectors, state program administrators, and tree farmers. We discussed program implementation, volunteer engagement, and updates to the Family Forest Carbon Program.

Before the conference we had an opportunity to explore some of the Pacific Northwest.

If you need to plant trees in Ohio, it's best if they're grown in Ohio. We're very happy that ODNR is able to reopen a state tree nursery. This will be so beneficial to Ohio!

This is great news for Ohio landowners!

Recently, a bill was signed to create the state's only tree-seedling nursery. The new Buckeye State Tree Nursery, which will be located on a Division of Forestry-owned property in Zanesville, will address regional shortages of suitable tree seedlings, assist with integral tree conservation projects, and invest in the future of Ohio’s forests.

Work on establishing the tree-seedling nursery will begin immediately with an initial start-up period. Tree seedlings will require a year or two to grow large enough for distribution. Plans are for Ohio-grown seedlings to be available in the spring of 2026.

The American Chestnut Foundation (TACF) announced today that it will discontinue its development of the Darling 58 American chestnut due to significant performance limitations that, from TACF’s perspective, make it unsuitable as a restoration tree. Likewise, TACF is also withdrawing its support for several pending regulatory petitions that would authorize distribution of transgenic Darling trees outside permitted research plots.

Volunteered with Pheasants Forever to manage private land with fire to maintain upland bird habitat. Two different burns were performed, each requiring an EPA smoke permit and a waiver from the Ohio Division of Forestry as we are currently in the fall burn ban in Ohio.
