Could have possibly posted some of these, maybe not. At this point in the year things are kinda blending together.

Reminder since seasons are starting to open- a decent mount with a good bird. Early season birds are more than likely pin feathered and won’t make a good finished product. I’m always willing to take a look, but will not promise that I will do them.

Heat is a big issue this time of year, and can be later on into the season. Do not shoot birds and leave them on top of the blind baking in the sun all day. Bacteria starts the second that bird is killed.

Remember field care is the best and number one component to insure you get a quality finished product. Take care of your birds.

Show season has come to an end for me. Between coaching 2 softball teams, 1 t-ball team, wrestling, dance and weekend soccer tournaments it’s crazy to think what I’ve accomplished for show birds all while balancing family time and customer work.

We traveled south and hit up the awesome Kansas show a few months ago. Took my speck and rooster from last year and put together a pair of old squaws. This was my first show competing in the masters division and let me tell ya, it’s a different ball game. But overall I’m happy with how they did. We took home the Delta Waterfowl Witchita Chapter Award picked by a local member for my speck. Also took home the Republican Valley Chapter Pheasants Forever Award for my rooster and also Best of Kansas Professional Upland Bird.

Nebraska’s show was this past weekend. I brought a couple of woodducks to compete in the John Willer Avian Challenge and was lucky to win that award. I also brought a turkey which I haven’t touched in over 5 years and haven’t fully mounted one ever. So it was a learning curve but excited to dive into that rabbit hole. Overall happy with this year’s birds and how they all did.

Quinn competed in the 18U amateur division and won best of category with her pheasant.

Beau competed in the youth division with his painted snow goose foot and bill. Super proud of both of them to stick it out and complete their projects.

Thanks for all the help with the show and to my wife for dealing with the long nights and stress.

I mounted these birds awhile back. Client provided his own back boards and sent me pictures last night. I love a deadmount.
