As my book, B2B PR That Gets Results, turns two, I want to thank everyone for all their support!

Getting a book out into the world takes patience and tenacity โ€“ phew!

I wrote the book with smaller B2B companies in mind. I often work with clients who have a marketing team as small as one. I wanted this to be a useful reference guide for them.

It's available wherever you buy books onlineโ€”at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, BookShop.org, and other sellers.

Yes, the book is turning two!

To everyone who has bought the book โ€“ THANK YOU so much! And to those whoโ€™ve been kind enough to review it (reviews help more people see the book), post about it on social media, or take the time to send me a note about how it has helped them, thank you, thank you, thank you!

The support means a lot to me โ€“ itโ€™s nerve-racking to send your book baby out into the world - and it motivates me to share what I continue to learn as I work in the PR field.

The book features a handy-dandy index, so you can easily look up any topic related to public relations - or fight whatever fire may be burning. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

In PR, it can be a challenge to pull the details from clients about HOW they're different.

What SPECIFICALLY makes them stand out from every other company in their category?

Todayโ€™s executives are expected to show up everywhere. Theyโ€™re appearing in virtual town halls, LinkedIn videos, investor updates, media interviews, and more, and traditional prep isn't cutting it. Scripted talking points can actually make spokespeople less prepared, not more.

So how can PR and comms pros help leaders speak on their feet with confidence?

Katie Suiters is a media trainer and Emmy-winning former journalist who coaches C-suite leaders at Fortune 100 companies through Brighton Media. She'll break down:

โ€ข One question you should ask before media training begins
โ€ข Why traditional media training doesn't work for today's formats
โ€ข How to build trust with your audiences: not just survive the interview

One of the things I love most about being interviewed for an NPR story is that people are hearing it - and reaching out to let me know โ˜บ๏ธ

I've heard from people I've worked with over the years in Columbus, friends in the Bay Area, colleagues around the country - and even from people I don't know who heard the story and connected with me after it ran.

Another thing I love about it? It's proof that PR works! When done right, it should help you show up when a journalist searches online for a source. That's how this came to be.

Thank you to Chloe Veltman for reaching out and including my insight!

(And, yes, I'm following advice I'd give clients by sharing the story, tagging the media outlet and the journalist. ๐Ÿ˜‰)

TOMORROW - join guest Katie Robbert of Trust Insights & me for a NEW episode of PR Explored!

Companies are realizing that an ongoing, consistent PR program can help them show up in search, whether through SEO or GEO (= AI-driven search).

Meanwhile, PR pros are bombarded by information about how to optimize for GEO. But what _really_ matters?

Looking for your next great read? How about a book by one of these fabulous female authors?

In honor of Women's History Month, Content Marketing Institute asked marketers for their favorite woman-authored books and Ann Gynn, one of my favorite female writers, compiled this comprehensive list - including my own book, ๐2๐ ๐๐‘ ๐“๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐†๐ž๐ญ๐ฌ ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฌ.

Thanks to Lori Quiller for recommending it!

"Michelle has a knack for distilling candid insights and budget-friendly strategies into tried-and-true blueprints for solving a variety of challenges. Definitely a great read and wonderful resource."

The link to the article with all the recommendations is below.

Did you hear me on Morning Edition? Yes, THAT Morning Edition!

Iโ€™m SO excited to be included in journalist Chloe Veltmanโ€™s story on NPR about the uniquely worded billboards that have been popping up in San Francisco.

We talked about this as a marketing approach and how, while it may work for the companies using it, it may alienate some.

"In San Francisco, these low-tech roadside signs might seem odd for high-tech advertisers. But PR and marketing consultant Michelle Garrett said billboards signal legitimacy to these companies and the people who buy their services.

'This makes them look like they're big and successful, helps build momentum for them,' Garrett said.

Garrett added that the insider-baseball language can also create buzz beyond the target audience. 'There's kind of a mystique almost about it,' she said. 'And that almost adds to the viral piece of it, because people want to share it and talk about it.'"

Thank you, Chloe, for interviewing me about this fascinating trend!

When it comes to content, commerce and entertainment, the lines are blurring, as more brands are moving beyond campaigns to treat them as infrastructure.

We see Gap creating a Chief Entertainment Officer role, major media outlets investing in talent and audience development, and brands building studios, licensing arms, and long-form content strategies.

These arenโ€™t isolated moves; they signal a broader shift in how companies are thinking about attention, trust, and cultural relevance. Some see this as the rise of the personality brand.

When brands start acting like media companies, PR and communications professionals need to be involved - but how might this impact our work?

Weโ€™ll examine this trend and what it means for PR and comms pros on the next episode of PR Explored, featuring guest Fatou B. Barry, founder of The PR Girl Manifesto.
