PROSPECT - this should be your new favorite word! As real estate agents, we need to prospect DAILY. We need to be constantly meeting with people that we know and don’t know. We can’t, and should not, sit around waiting for the phone to ring - put yourself in situations where we can meet and interact with new people. Join a club! Know everyone at your gym! Live your life doing the things that you love and you’ll connect with people who share a similar interest.

Work on building a quality relationship not solely based on business. Most people we meet will be buying or selling at some point in their future - how do you ensure they utilize your services when the time comes?

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY.

Ask yourself - Are you wasting your time on BUSY work but not being productive at the activities that matter? Are you working hard or working smart?

When you are busy, you are LESS productive. A busy person inevitably is multi-tasking. This leads to more mistakes and increased time to finish both tasks.

Showing homes to a buyer who’s not qualified for a loan is being in BUSY-ness, not in business.

Managing an overactive email inbox is being in BUSY-ness, not in business.

Ask yourself - how are you going to be in business today? Leave the BUSY-ness for someone else.

YIKES! Did you know, on average, we will spend over 6.5 years doom scrolling on social media. WOW! Eye opening right? It’s funny because we constantly say we don’t have enough time. Or is it that we don’t prioritize our time appropriately? We all have the same amount of it, the difference is how we use it. Some questions to ask yourself:

Are you using your time on income-generating activities?
Are there repetitive, time consuming tasks you can delegate?
Are you playing to your strengths?
Will this activity build a relationship?

Technology - do you use it as a tool or a crutch? Are you trying to find tech that replaces you or enhances you? It better be the latter.

Any tech offering, and believe me there are thousands, should enhance your ability to service your client, faster, more conveniently and on their terms. While tech is great, and we love that we can transact business from anywhere, it can not, and should not, replace the human to human relationship that agents need to create with their clients. We become trusted advisors guiding our clients through the buying or selling process.

At the end of the day, no technology will replace the way you make your client feel - and that is why this is still a HUMAN to HUMAN business. Act that way!

PRO, TWEENER or ROOKIE - Which one best describes you? I believe there are 3 types of real estate agents in the market right now.

PRO: You have clearly defined 3-4 pillars of your business, you’ve mastered them forwards, backwards, inside out and you know with certainty you can guarantee revenue off those pillars.
TWEENER: You’ve built a great business, but sometimes it feels like it's by chance, or luck. You have a few lead sources that you can count on, but you aren’t sure you’ve mastered it or its consistent.
ROOKIE: You’re just getting into the game. You're grasping for anything and everything that might lead to a potential lead, prospect or client.

Let’s be REAL! Where do you fall? As we grow and build our business, we should all strive to be PRO, but let’s face it, it takes time to get there. I’ll be honest, I’m probably somewhere between a PRO and TWEENER. Wherever you are in your career, embrace it, strap in, and be ready to put in the work to turn PRO.
