As a full service firm with more than nine decades of experience, we are passionate about creating facilities that surpass owner and community expectations for function and aesthetics, but that are also so well designed and engineered that they will serve generations to come. We view architecture and engineering as disciplines to serve people...the means to shape structures to serve human needs. W

e know that exceptional buildings do, in return, positively shape the experiences of the people who use them.

Located in an underdeveloped portion of Columbus’ historic Italian Village, All Paws Social is part of an emerging trend of businesses where dogs can play off-leash and socialize with other dogs in a safe and enclosed park while humans socialize at an on-site bar. The existing building was originally intended for manufacturing use, and the new tenant space occupied by All Paws Social is approximately 18,000 square feet, including 10,000 square feet of interior space and an 8,000 square foot fenced exterior yard.

The unique program of this project includes a retail and reception area, a grooming service, private rentable party space, an indoor/outdoor bar, a food truck area, an indoor/outdoor dog park, and an indoor dog “lounge” for lower-intensity pups. A shallow paddle pool exclusively for dogs is planned for future phases.

will be a vibrant destination and serve the booming population of the surrounding neighborhood.

Calmly resting along the windy landscapes of Northeast Ohio, Terra Village sits in an open prairie adjacent to a nearby stream just south of the Upland Prairie Trails. As such, the residence hall serves as a hub through which people access various locations while providing stunning sight lines both to and from the building.

The proposed building massing and organization embodies the design of a refined industrial silo aesthetic. The primary massing stems from three main silos - two at each pivot point and the their facing campus - which serve to anchor the building within the site while connecting with the existing vernacular. While large, the building is separated into three masses, and a pass-thru is provided to allow an uninterrupted connection with parking and nature trails from campus. Retail is provided on the ground floor while the administration portion of the program is allocated at the primary entrance within Silo 1.

Located on a tight urban plot in Downtown Columbus, this proposal for a multi-family project in the Bluestone area of Columbus is the first of the new wave of development. Once a block characterized by single family homes and small commercial structures, the design carefully breaks down the mass of the building – crafting both a 3 and 6 story portion. The balconies, a defining characteristic of the design, are carved out of the mass instead of merely tacking on - diminishing the mass while providing great depth to the street facing façade.

Fitting within the urban architectural typology, elevated outdoor spaces are integrated within the design of the building. A landscaped central courtyard provides amenity space for the residents, gathering spaces for visitors, and allows light deeper into the building footprint. On the lower wing of the building a rooftop garden is used for larger group gatherings and formal events. These are fully landscaped with trees, hardscape, seating, and water features.

Exciting work happening in The City of Mount Vernon!

Mayor Matt Starr, along with Josh and Jamie of MKC Architects, pictured, met with students from the Knox County Learning Center in Mount Vernon on Sept. 8 to hear suggestions for the City's Parks Master Plan. The students offered several good ideas, many that only teenagers could come up with. Thanks to Learning Center Principal Mazzari for organizing the event.

The new Dormitory & Student Center at St. Thomas University will set a new standard for on campus living. There are 300 beds of student housing contained within a 4-story L-shaped building. The units are hybrid style – meaning they contain private restroom and kitchen facilities. Designed to serve both undergrad and graduate students, the units are amply sized and have access to laundry, study spaces, and lounge areas. The dormitory wraps itself around STU’s new Student Center, creating a lush, shared courtyard. Construction will preserve all mature trees not directly underneath the footprint of the building, allowing for a mature landscape from day one.
