The Mississippi Bar’s CLE on the Road was recently held in Columbus. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with local attorneys and judges while earning quality CLE.

We especially enjoyed hearing from Presiding Justice Josiah D. Coleman of the Mississippi Supreme Court, Circuit Court Judge James T. Kitchens Jr., Chancery Court Judge Joseph N. Studdard, Mississippi State Representative Rob Roberson, Mississippi Bar General Counsel Missye Scott, and Mississippi College School of Law Professor Emily Lindsay.

A big thank you to Mississippi Bar President-Elect Kelly Sessoms and Associate General Counsel Dana Robertson for organizing such a valuable program and bringing it to Columbus, we appreciate your continued support of our local bar.

Alert! There is a current scam in Columbus where people, pretending to be from the Lowndes Co Sheriffs office, are calling families of inmates and trying to get them to post a "collateral bond" through a government kiosk. NO ONE from the sheriffs office would call you or your family about how to post a bond. Make sure you or your family has a valid bond, verified through the sheriffs office, and use a licensed bond agent. Do not fall for this scam, that is attempting to target desperate families already stressed. Also, no one from Meadows Law Group, LLC would tell you to go to a kiosk and post bond.

CHECK THIS OUT!! WHAT A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH MOTIVATED STUDENTS AS **FREE** RESEARCH ASSISTANTS:

In light of the evolving situation related to COVID-19 and the difficult circumstances facing legal employers and law schools around the country, the University of Alabama School of Law Career Services Office has implemented a Short-Term Assistance in Research Program (STAR) for this summer. If you are in need of legal research assistance, but are not in a position to hire a full-time law clerk, this program can help by partnering you with qualified legal research assistance by Alabama Law students on a remote, per-project basis.

To learn more about the STAR Program or to request research assistance, please go to https://universityofalabama.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_00SEMHUE9OB6y3z . You can also find this information on the Alabama Law website (law.ua.edu) by clicking on the Career Services tab and following the prompts. We hope this program can be helpful to your office. If you have questions regarding the STAR Program, please reach out to Assistant Directors LeAnn Wilson at [email protected] or Nathan Smart at [email protected].
