Fans of keeping women in the name of MUW are sure to like seeing how high our nation's first public institution of higher education for women ranks in this impressive inaugural America's Best Colleges for Women 2026 list.

"Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions in a young woman's life. It's about more than academics—it's about finding a place to thrive, to lead and to build the foundation for a successful future. The college experience should empower every student to reach their full potential, and for women, that means attending an institution that prioritizes leadership opportunities, equitable pay practices, campus safety and meaningful pathways to success."

Yep, that sounds like The W!

To help prospective students and their families make informed decisions, Newsweek and Gender Fair are proud to present the inaugural America's Best Colleges for Women 2026 list.

President Nora Miller’s time at the helm is coming to an end, and the search for Mississippi University for Women’s next President is underway. Going out on a limb here, but some of you might have an opinion about that. Read about the search and share your thoughts with the Mississippi Institutions of Hl.

What’s big news in the Golden Triangle needs to resonate throughout the state. Keeping Women in the Name of the W is predicated on there being a W! Many in the know predict taking away MSMS is the next tactic of those small-minded politicos who want to do away with our Alma mater.

Since the idea of moving Mississippi School for Math and Science from its home on the campus of Mississippi University for Women to a new site at Mississippi State University first emerged late in the 2024 legislative session, MUW president Nora Miller seemed to have struggled to find her voice.

Homecoming 2024 is now in the rearview mirror, literally for most members of The Long Blue Line who converged on City of Columbus (MS) to walk hand-in-hand down Memory Lane singing “Friends,” a beloved anthem to sisterhood. Many were also there looking forward to hearing what Mississippi University for Women alumna and President Nora Roberts Miller had to say about her ill-fated name change effort. Although not addressed specifically, the possibility of a future without women in the name appears to remain on the Miller playlist.

Miller’s refusal to embrace the popular option “The W: A Mississippi University” was a setback that continues to pose challenges for MUW. The silver lining to the effort is the way The W’s Loyal Daughters (and Smart Men, too) stepped up in heroic fashion AGAIN - this time to fund rejoining the Women’s College Coalition, underwrite campus beautification and support recruiting efforts monetarily and with boots on the ground.

Despite the tidal wave of negative legislative action successfully averted from turning into a tsunami of merger or closure (for now), the ripple effects (and the scrutiny) seem to have jumpstarted the MUW Admissions Office and University Relations, two functions roundly criticized and “credited” with lackluster performance. Despite rejecting their name, the marketing strategy and creative proposals of the alums who pitched “The W: A Mississippi University” have apparently been borrowed to fuel stepped-up efforts and promotional activity.

Keep Women In The Name of MUW will stay vigilant. We know you will, too!

Onward W soldiers! A Wonderful way to celebrate International Women’s Day is by championing America’s first public college for women. We’ve kept the name, and now alumni and supporters must join to defeat SB2715.

The words of Mississippi University for Women President Nora Roberts Miller reveal the misogyny at work in the Mississippi State Senate with forewarning of the bill’s introduction given to the male heads of MSU and the IHL, but not to her.
