Every detail matters.

While working to restore the sanctuary walls of Saint Mary Basilica, the construction crew discovered this old, decorative wallpaper. A torn fragment is shown above. We used the antique covering as inspiration for the pattern that was painted on the apse ceiling. Each was stenciled using various sizes and designs to give a unique look to the starry sky. It’s no wonder the project took over 6 months, but you can’t rush this sort of thing - and the final result is dramatic yet elegant.

You can’t be afraid of heights with this profession.

Many of the jobs we do require scaffolding and/or lifts. Sometimes one section of scaffolding will suffice, other times, we need to install dance-floor scaffolding, which is basically constructing a new, temporary floor level. On this new level, we can then use scaffolding on wheels to move about in order to get us to that perfect height with the flexibility these large-scale projects require. Often, you’ll find the Muralworks team anywhere between 25 and 150 ft in the air working on the details viewers get to enjoy from ground level. Not only can that be a physical challenge, but also a visual one, as we need to figure out just the right size and intensity for each piece. Go too light with your design and it becomes a smear above, punch-up the color too much and it can be distracting to the viewer. It’s all about finding that happy medium.
