🍎Teacher Appreciation Week 2026 🍎

May 4 – May 8

This week, we honor the educators who show up with passion, patience, and purpose every single day.

Teachers don’t just teach lessons, they shape minds, build confidence, and inspire futures that will impact generations to come.

At RMA, we understand that excellence begins with strong foundations and teachers are at the heart of that work.

Take a moment this week to say thank you to a teacher who has made a difference in your life or your child’s journey.

“She wasn’t expected there. That’s exactly why her presence mattered.

In 1971, Cheryl Browne, a young woman from Iowa, stepped onto one of the most iconic stages in American culture: the Miss America pageant. At first glance, she appeared to be just another contestant—poised, composed, and competing under the bright lights like everyone else.

But in reality, she was doing something far more significant.

Cheryl Browne became the first Black woman ever to compete in the Miss America pageant, a competition that had existed for over 50 years while reflecting a very narrow standard of beauty. For decades, Black women had been excluded—not by coincidence, but by long-standing systems and cultural expectations that quietly defined who “belonged” on that stage.

Her appearance challenged that history simply by existing within it.

She did not win the crown that night, but her impact went far beyond the results. She forced a national audience to confront a question that had gone unasked for generations: why had women like her never been seen here before?

A little more than a decade later, in 1983, Vanessa Williams would go on to become the first Black Miss America, stepping into a space that Cheryl Browne had helped open.

Together, their stories show how change often begins—not with immediate recognition—but with someone quietly deciding to enter a room that was never built for them, and staying anyway.”

GMAS Season is Here… We Hope Everyone’s First Day Was Positive!

As we transition through MCSD Testing Season (April 22 – May1), this is a critical time for our students in grades 3–12.

Success during this season is not just about academics, it’s about preparation, confidence, and support at home.

🎯 5 Key Testing Strategies for Student Success

1. Rest & Routine Matter
Ensure your student gets proper sleep and maintains a consistent routine. A well-rested mind performs better.

2. Positive Mindset & Encouragement
Speak life and confidence into your student. Remind them: “You are prepared. You are capable.”

3. Healthy Start to the Day
A balanced breakfast and hydration can significantly impact focus and energy levels.

4. Practice & Preparation
Encourage review of notes, practice questions, and previously learned material. Preparation builds confidence.

5. Reduce Stress & Stay Calm
Help your student manage anxiety by staying calm, arriving early, and reminding them to take their time and read carefully.

Let’s work together to ensure our students are focused, confident, and prepared to succeed.

With appreciation,
Dr. Natalie Nicole
