He'd jump rope with us, play our silly games, and do just about anything to hear his girls laugh.

Looking back, I realize he wasn't just playing with us.

Mom left certain things to Dad.

Flying kites. Riding bikes. Fishing. Anything that involved getting dirty, going too fast, or coming home a little later than planned.

Mom thought he was teaching me how to have fun.

Looking back, I think Dad was having even more fun than I was.

Today, Dad moves slower and needs help with things. And I'm grateful I get to be there for him—just like he was always there for me.

Can a friend or neighbor get paid to care for me?

Not through Structured Family Care. Your paid caregiver must be a qualifying relative by blood, adoption, or marriage—such as a son or daughter, grandchild, niece, nephew, or cousin.

Friends and neighbors don't qualify, and spouses cannot be paid caregivers under SFC.
