Some of the most essential public works infrastructure is never seen by the public, but communities rely on it every day. On the Indian Canyon Drive Bridge Microtunneling project in Palm Springs, Harris is supporting a critical underground utility upgrade designed to strengthen wastewater infrastructure while minimizing disruption above ground. Rooted in service and powered by community, projects like this reflect how technical expertise, constructability planning, and thoughtful delivery help public agencies protect essential services while managing risk in complex environments.

Public works projects create places where communities can gather, play, and connect, but delivering those spaces often requires complex work below the surface.

In Spring Valley, the 9.5-acre Calavo Park project is bringing new recreational amenities to the community, including a skate park, dog parks, play fields, a community garden, basketball and pickleball courts, and public facilities. Behind those visible improvements, the project required careful coordination around challenging soil conditions, 13 retaining wall systems, and stormwater features designed to add holding capacity and reduce strain on neighborhood utilities.

Rooted in service and powered by community, projects like Calavo Park reflect how thoughtful construction management and quality assurance help public agencies turn complex capital improvements into lasting community assets.

Some public works projects only become visible when communities need them most. The Villa La Jolla Storm Drain Emergency project in the City of San Diego reflects how rapid response, coordination, and infrastructure expertise help restore essential services and protect the community during critical situations. Rooted in service and powered by community, projects like this demonstrate how thoughtful delivery and teamwork help agencies respond quickly while strengthening long-term resilience.

Resilient public infrastructure is about more than replacing what no longer meets today’s needs, it is about creating safer, more functional spaces that support the people who depend on them. At UC Berkeley, the Academic Seismic Replacement Building will replace the seismically deficient Evans Hall with a modern academic and administrative facility designed to strengthen life safety, expand instructional capacity, and improve access to student support services. The project reflects how public works investments rooted in service help institutions protect communities and create lasting value for future generations.

Reliable public works infrastructure helps communities manage what they cannot always see, from stormwater flows to essential wastewater systems.

In Coronado, the Parker Pump Station Replacement Project will strengthen one of the City’s largest pump stations, improving how stormwater and sanitary sewer flows are managed in the Country Club area. The new station is designed to improve operational efficiency, reduce flood risk for nearby homes, and protect water quality. Harris is proud to be providing construction management services on this important project.

Rooted in service and powered by community, projects like this reflect how thoughtful construction management, field coordination, and community engagement help public agencies protect essential services while creating added neighborhood value, including 6,000 square feet of new green space.

Public works is not only about what gets built, it is about what becomes possible for a community. In Gonzales, the Dennis & Janice Caprara Community Center creates a place for recreation, programs, gathering, and connection that reflects this year’s National Public Works Week theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community.” That impact is shaped by the people behind the work, including Luis Flores, whose construction management leadership helped guide day-to-day coordination and ex*****on for a project that will serve Gonzales for years to come.
