Who are DMMs?
I’ve just returned from a fast-paced, invigorating and as always, informative annual conference of the American Association of Daily Money Managers. Every year, which is almost the only time I get to hang out with my colleagues, I am impressed all the more by the nature those colleagues share: smart (even, nerdy), earnest, hard-working, multi-talented, and thoughtful. But more, I’ve come to think they all spent some time in their youth longing to become Nancy Drew or a Hardy Boy when they grew up. They love to solve things. They are endlessly curious. And they have an acute attention to detail.
Nancy Drew always helped wash up the luncheon dishes before endangering herself by spying on the sinister man at the old barn. Daily Money Managers balance the checkbook first, then slip out to confront the drug-addicted adult child who is spending down his elderly mother’s trust fund. They pore over investment statements in search of the unauthorized withdrawals by untrustworthy relatives. They track down receipts, like clues, to prove whether an expense was tax-deductible. Their blunt instruments are court orders, their traps are pdfs of forged checks. And they always save the day.
But I bet Nancy Drew didn’t have a documented paper trail like DMMs have. Find a DMM, and you’ll also find a rock-solid court case complete with all the proof you need to prove the sinister stranger was behind the disappearance of the jewels. Or the CDs, the Social Security checks, or the shares of stock, because DMMS are on the job: earnest, hardworking, skilled, and determined to solve the case. So if you find yourself in need of a daily finance detective, find an AADMM member in your neighborhood: https://secure.aadmm.com/find-a-dmm
