Fall is such a beautiful time of year here in New Hampshire, but the cooler weather and shorter days can make some everyday routines a little more challenging.

Whether it’s keeping up with laundry, preparing meals, getting groceries, or having someone there to lend a hand with personal care, a little extra support can go a long way.

At No Place Like Home, we’re proud to support individuals through New Hampshire’s Choices for Independence (CFI) program, helping them stay comfortable, connected, and as independent as possible in their own homes!

Because there’s something special about being able to enjoy the season right where you feel most at home 💚

This World Mental Health Day, we’re recognizing the emotional side of caregiving, the part that isn’t always visible.

Caring for someone you love can bring worry, exhaustion, difficult decisions, and moments when everything feels like a lot. For those receiving care, changes in health or independence can bring their own feelings of uncertainty, frustration, loneliness, or fear.

Support can make a meaningful difference 💜 A helping hand at home, time to rest, a conversation with someone who understands, or simply knowing you don’t have to carry everything alone can lighten the load.

At NPLH, we believe compassionate care means supporting the whole person while also recognizing the family and loved ones caring alongside them.

Today, may we all offer a little more patience, kindness, and understanding to others and to ourselves.

The autumn colors are here in New Hampshire, and you don’t have to go far to enjoy them!

If it’s safe and comfortable, take a slow walk together or sit outside for a few minutes and enjoy the fresh air. Sometimes good company and a pretty view are all you need to enjoy the day 🍁

We’re so glad to introduce you to Joella!

As a Direct Care Coordinator, she helps clients find caregivers who are the right fit and supports families caring for the people they love. She’s been part of the NPLH team for a little over two years 💜

“A little about me outside of work: I’m recently engaged, love baking, reading, and enjoy spending time outdoors, from hiking and camping to paddle boarding. When I’m home, you’ll usually find me spending time with my two cats.”

We’re grateful to have Joella on the NPLH team and for the care she brings to the people and families we serve!

September gave us a reason to talk about Alzheimer’s and the people it touches. But if it’s part of your family’s life, you know the conversation doesn’t end when the month does. It’s there in the day-to-day, as families adjust and figure out what kind of support feels right.

We hope the conversations keep going, with people living with Alzheimer’s included and caregivers feeling able to ask for help.

If you’ve been wondering whether some extra support at home might be helpful, reach out. We’d be glad to listen and talk it through with you. 💜

Sometimes the small change that makes home safer is how we offer help.

When a person living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia feels confused or unsure, repeatedly correcting them can add to the frustration. A calm voice, simple words, and gentle reassurance can help them feel more secure and comfortable accepting support.

Keeping someone safe isn’t only about changes around the home, it's also about creating moments of trust.

As World Alzheimer’s Month continues, it’s worth remembering that the way care feels to someone matters, too.

If extra support at home could bring more calm to your family’s routine, No Place Like Home is here when you’re ready to talk 💜

When someone you love is living with dementia, keeping them safe can feel like a careful balance. You want to prevent a fall without making them feel watched, corrected, or restricted.

A clear walkway, better lighting, supportive shoes, gentle movement, or a steady hand at the right moment can all help. Familiar routines and calm guidance matter, too.

These thoughtful changes can protect more than physical safety. They can help home continue to feel familiar, comfortable, and truly theirs 💜

Hearing “I want to go home” from someone living with Alzheimer's or any other form of dementia, especially when they are already home, can be confusing and heartbreaking. It is completely natural to want to reassure them by explaining where they are 🫶🏻

But sometimes, “home” may mean more than an address. It may be their way of saying that things do not feel familiar, that they are uncomfortable, or that they need to feel safe in that moment.

When we can, it may help to gently meet the feeling behind the words: “You miss home. Tell me about it,” or, “You are safe, I’m right here with you.”

There may not be a perfect response in every moment, but offering comfort and connection can help them feel safe and understood 💜

This World Alzheimer’s Month, we’re sharing a simple way to connect through memories 👇🏻

Instead of asking, “Do you remember when…?” try saying, “I remember when…” and begin sharing the story.

Talk about where you were, who was there, or something that made you laugh. This takes away the pressure to remember and allows them to enjoy the moment with you. They may add a detail, smile, or simply listen, and that’s okay!

The goal isn’t to test their memory, it’s to help them feel safe, included, and connected.

Share this with someone who may find it helpful 💜

Alzheimer’s may change the way someone experiences the world, but it doesn’t change who they are or how deeply they are loved.

This World Alzheimer’s Month, we’re honoring the people, families and caregivers whose lives are touched by Alzheimer’s.

Through every change, everyone deserves to feel safe, valued and at home 💜
