The Harting Family began farming in 1807 in Tully Township and is currently under management of the sixth generation. Harting Farms is located in Van Wert County just outside of Convoy, OH. Over the years, the farm has evolved steadily from farming 14 acres with a team of oxen to its current production of 7,000+ acres today. Aside from grain farming, the family also has other businesses that inclu

de CCT Trucking Company, Harting Livestock, and Harting Nutrient Management. is a trucking business that was created in order for the family to haul their grain to market. Today, aside from the family still using the trucking company to haul grain, they also haul livestock to various locations across the country and haul agriculture commodity in hoppers, belt, van, and tanker trailers. With 14,000 wean to finish hogs, as of 2022 Harting Livestock is the largest permitted hog farm in the state of Ohio operating 4 total barns. Aside from the hog operation, the family also has 40,000 free range, laying hens. Harting Nutrient Management is a custom application business that applies everything from nutrients such as manure to herbicides.

One of our favorite things is giving back to our community, and today was one of those special days. A few of our team members had the opportunity to help out with the local United Way Day of Caring, sorting food donations collected throughout the community to restock our local food banks. We are truly blessed by the generosity of this community, and the amount of food and other items donated today was unbelievable.

A big thank you to United Way of Van Wert County for all you do! And a round of applause to the Vantage Career Centerstudent ambassadors, staff, and all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication today!

For today’s , we are introducing you all to one of our full-time equipment operators, Tyler Mills. Tyler has been working at the farm for a year, and he is in charge of running the main equipment depending on the time of year. This equipment can be a sprayer, tillage tractor, grain cart tractor, spreader, combine, or anything else he may need to jump into. As we all know, there isn’t always a need to run equipment, so when Tyler is not running equipment, he works in the shop as a welder or fills in wherever he is needed. Tyler is married to his wife Leslie, and has two kids, Taylor, and Emmy. Before joining our team, Tyler was in the Army and served on two combat tours. Outside of the farm, Tyler enjoys working on four wheelers, riding motorcycles, camping, and spending time with family.

For today’s , we are introducing you all to another one of our full-time truck drivers, Andy May. Andy started working for us as a back up truck driver in February of 2023 and then became full time in October 2023. Andy hauls hogs and cattle all over the United States for our trucking company. When Andy is not at the farm, he enjoys going on riding trips, spending time with family, and riding his golf cart.

For today’s , we are introducing you all to our full-time chicken barn tech, Edgar Villar. Edgar has been working at the farm for 2 years, and his main job is working in the chicken barns, collecting eggs, and walking the barns to ensure our chickens are living in a safe environment. Edgar has come to the United States from Mexico to work. Before coming to the farm, Edgar worked at Cooper farms, and before coming to America, Edgar was a Veterinarian in Mexico, so he has plenty of experience working with animals, especially birds. Edgar is married to his wife Adrianna, and together they have two children, Adrian and Danna. When Edgar isn’t at the farm, he enjoys reading books and spending time with his wife and children.

For today’s , we are introducing you all to our maintenance technician, Tony Schaffner. Tony has been working at the farm for 2 years, and his main job is taking care of the maintenance in the livestock barns, and when he isn’t in the barns, he is working in the shop, or running equipment. Tony has been married to his wife Rachel for 6 years in November, and together they have one daughter, Caroline. When Tony is not working at the farm, he enjoys woodworking, doing small jobs at home or around the community, and spending time with his family and friends.
