Tracking down that IRS refund
You’ve double-checked all your calculations, made sure you used all the receipts you had saved, and looked over that W-2 one last time to make sure you didn’t miss something. Then, with baited breath, you clicked that magical “Send” button that shot your income tax return into cyberspace toward the IRS.
Don’t expect your refund to be quite that fast.
If you understand how the system works, it can save you some frustration. Usually, we use the IRS’ “Where’s My Refund” feature to track our refund’s whereabouts. But remember that the IRS tool won’t be updated with your information until at least 24 hours after the return is accepted. So wait for your return to be accepted by the IRS – then wait another 24 hours before checking the IRS tool.
