I can hardly believe this is my fifth year growing flowers.

The fields are still a work in progress and I’m not open for the summer season yet, but I will announce as the blooms start producing in the fields.

After a big rain delay, we’re moving’ and groovin’ getting drip tape down, w**d barrier in position, and seedlings planted.

I’m behind where I want to be and where I was last year, but mommin’ three busy kids and being full-time in education doesn’t exactly lend itself to a lot of free time. With summer break in session, it’s time to get busy!

It’s spring, and for an educator working in the guidance office as dean of students that means triple checking graduation requirements and working with students on next year class schedules.

Then I get to come home to my house filled with chaos, noise, and lots of love.

That doesn’t leave a lot of room for flower farming, but I’m doing my best and I’m happy with that.

Over the past three prom weekends, I’ve sent over 20 bouquets and boutonnières out the door, each one crafted by me with love. Out of those twenty, I stopped and snapped one picture.

One. Singular. Picture. 😂

I say it all the time — I can either take pictures of my work, or I can actually work. When you’re fitting being a farmer-florist into an already jammed packed schedule, there is little time for the frivolous act of photography for social media.

So, in case you’re wondering, I’m still here. I’m still doing flowers. I’m crazy busy and my head is spinning circles, but I’m doing my best.

I can’t tell you how many times I get asked how I do it all: raise three kids, work full-time in education, farm flowers, keep a house, show up at markets, make bouquets.

I’m glad I’ve got you all fooled because, folks, I’m living on a prayer.

Thanks for thinking I’m more put together than I really am and for supporting and following this dream.

Tulip season has a way of keeping you humble.

One minute you’re watching them stretch toward the sun, the next you’re racing the weather, pulling blooms at all hours, and learning (the hard way) that bud blast has no mercy.

And yes, we really do cut the bulbs off. And no, you cannot replant them.

But somewhere between the dirt, the early mornings, and the chaos there’s this moment where the colors hit just right and you remember why you do it.

This season reminded me that growing anything (flowers, a business, a tiny human) is never perfectly controlled, but it’s always worth every ounce of effort.
