We’re getting ready for International Overdose Awareness Day! On August 31 we’re hosting a community-focused day of action and we hope you’ll join us to learn how to safely and confidently respond to overdoses.

In April 2026, the La Crosse Public Library received a donated Overdose Aid Kit from The Overdose Response Network at The Clinton Foundation while attending the Wisconsin Association of Public Libraries Conference. Since its installation, our O.A.K. has helped us distribute 19 doses of Narcan to members of our community.
While we don’t know the circumstances surrounding 18 of those doses, we do know the story of one—and it is a story that reminds us just how important this resource is.

One of those doses helped save the life of a member of our community. After performing CPR on an individual who was unresponsive, Narcan obtained from our O.A.K. was administered, and the individual was revived.

We are incredibly grateful to Jessica Geschke and to the O.A.K. for making this lifesaving resource available in our community. Because that kit was there when it was needed, a life was saved—and a family, friends, and an entire community were spared the unimaginable grief and heartbreak that could have followed.

This is why access to Narcan matters. This is why community resources matter. And this is why the O.A.K. is making a difference.

Chelsey spent the past two days at the Crisis Intervention Conference in Wisconsin Dells, learning, networking at meals and between sessions, and even winning a door prize from a vendor booth! There is always more to learn about mental health, substance use, and supporting people who may be in crisis.
