Two client hearings during November Legislative Days! We are gaining some momentum on 100 Percent Fish/Industrial Symbiosis as well as bolstering Oregon's Blue Economy!

It also was amazing to be able to see the Capitol Rotunda again after years of construction-related closures. We also celebrated the ribbon cutting of the Peter Courtney Dining Hall for legislators, which was quite an honor, given that our President Rick Osborn was one of hundreds who worked with and for President Courtney during his time in the Capitol.

Another amazing highlight was the reconstruction of the Capitol's basement. What used to look like, well, a basement, is being transformed into quite a wonderful work space with a brand new hearing room that is quite impressive, as well as a larger cafeteria and improved Capitol Club space. That's big for us, because, as lobbyists, we need places to be able store our things, have private meetings and recharge our phones and laptops.

It was a fulfilling and rewarding experience to put together the Oregon Coast Economic Summit and Taste of the Oregon Coast Event on behalf of the Oregon Coastal Caucus. It was a fun and productive couple of days of networking, learning, idea sharing and fun. Thanks to our partners -- Oregon Coast Visitors Association -- and all the sponsors, volunteers and participants who made this a success! Onward to next year!

Seafood to Schools is great for Oregon's students (healthy proteins on their school lunch trays) and the Oregon fishing industry. This is a winner all the way around!

A legislative bill poised to introduce more Oregon seafood into public schools across the state is being applauded by child nutrition advocates, seafood processors and champions of coastal economies.

The Oregon Legislature has an opportunity this session to put healthy food in front of children around the state on their school lunch trays, while also taking a step that will shore up local buyers for seafood produced off the Oregon Coast!

If HB 3568 passes, the state would spend roughly $800,000 to assist schools in acquiring seafood for students, training for school kitchen staff on seafood preparation and an education campaign to teach children about local fishing and shellfish harvesting.

The global trade environment is impacting worldwide demand on local seafood products. The Oregon Coast Visitors Association is working on legislation that can help be a solution for this problem by supporting and encouraging more local seafood being served in schools around the state! USDA has stepped in to buy excess shrimp ... a wonderful product and exceptionally health source of protein ... and we are working to get more of that product on kids' plates!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has agreed to purchase USD 16 million (EUR 14 million) worth of Oregon pink shrimp.

Norway has joined Oregon as one of the areas working on 100 Percent Fish projects to make sure we are deriving more value from our catch ... and creating less waste! Iceland Ocean Cluster is leading the way, and Oregon Coast Visitors Association is proposing legislation this session -- HB 2969 -- which will help Oregon move in this direction!

The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) has made it a recent focus to ensure that as many parts of fish are used as possible, rather than wasted.

The current global trade environment is creating challenges ... but also opportunities to revise menus and source locally. There are no tariffs on local seafood! Local producers can capitalize on this.

Some U.S. restaurants and retailers are already passing along the costs of tariffs on to customers.
