Flagging trees today ahead of a sidewalk installation

Before any concrete is poured, we’re identifying which trees should be protected to maintain long-term canopy coverage.

🟢 High priority — critical to preserve (shade, structure, longevity)
🟡 Moderate priority — work around if feasible
🔴 Lower priority — minimal impact to overall canopy

When sidewalks are installed without this step, roots get cut, soil gets compacted, and you lose the very shade people expect to use the space comfortably, especially in Alabama.

Planning ahead allows us to adjust layout, protect root zones, and keep mature trees in place while development moves forward.

Shade isn’t a luxury in Alabama. It’s infrastructure

Anyone can run equipment.
Not everyone knows when to stop.

On this job, excavation paused the moment roots were exposed—because what’s underground matters just as much as what you see above.

Tree protection isn’t guesswork. It’s intentional, trained, and done the right way from the start.

This is what preservation actually looks

Understanding what’s on a site before construction begins can make a significant difference in how a project unfolds.

Our assessments provide a clear visual of existing trees, their condition, and how they relate to proposed construction activity. This allows project teams to identify potential conflicts early and make informed decisions moving forward.

The goal is simple—better planning, fewer issues, and stronger long-term outcomes for the landscape after construction.

Starting in June; Lunch & Learn with Partners in Preservation!

Construction and tree preservation don’t have to work against each other..but too often, they do.

On-site lunch & learn sessions designed for contractors, project managers who want to better understand how to protect trees during construction and avoid costly mistakes.

In just one hour, we cover:

What actually damages trees on a jobsite (and what doesn’t)
How to avoid root damage during trenching, grading, and equipment use
Simple adjustments that can prevent long-term tree loss
How preservation can save money—not add cost

An hour of education can save thousands in removals, replacements, and liability down the road.

If you’re interested in scheduling a session for your team, reach out—we’d love to work with you.

" We never even touched the tree" - I hear this weekly. It's important to remember the most critical part of the tree is what you can not see.

During consutrction, irrigation trenching cut through portions of this root system, while equipment contact caused damage to the trunk.

Now we’re dealing with two issues:

Below ground: compromised roots, reduced stability, and limited water/nutrient uptake
Above ground: trunk injury, creating an entry point for decay, pest & disease.

Damage like this doesn’t always show up immediately, but over time, the tree will respond.

There are multiple ways to prevent this, however there are not always multiple ways to correct this.

Everyone says they’re protecting trees…
but most jobsites are protecting the wrong area.

The damage isn’t always visible right away—
but it’s almost always happening below the surface.

Stay tuned to hear about our Lunch & Learn sessions!

This is 💯 Accurate

When “ Tree Protection Plan” shows up on the plans and it feels like a personal attack 😂

But.. it’s really protecting what was there before the project started. That’s where we come in—- helping you navigate it the RIGHT way.

Hello, I’m Cheyenne Taylor, co-owner of Taylor Tree Service, and after years of working on jobsites, one thing became clear—trees are often damaged during construction not because people don’t care, but because there’s no clear plan in place to protect them.

That’s exactly why Partners in Preservation was created.

This is a consulting-focused extension of Taylor Tree Service, dedicated to protecting and preserving trees throughout the construction and development process.

We work alongside contractors, developers, and property owners to implement practical, jobsite-ready solutions, including:

Tree Preservation Plans & Consulting
Tree Protection Zone (TPZ) layout and installation guidance
Soil management
Pre-construction tree assessments & risk evaluations
On-site monitoring during active construction
Post-construction recovery and long-term tree health planning

Because once damage is done, it can’t be undone.

Tree preservation isn’t landscaping—and it’s not an afterthought. It’s a critical part of planning, compliance, and protecting the long-term value of a project.

Follow along as we share real projects, education, and what it actually looks like to protect trees on active jobsites.
