Eumaeus atala, or the Atala butterfly, is a rare, iridescent butterfly found in southeastern Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean, known for its striking black wings with blue spots and a bright red abdomen. Its survival is tied to the coontie plant (Zamia integrifolia), its sole food source, making it a conservation success story after nearly going extinct in Florida due to coontie overharvesting. The caterpillars are toxic, which deters predators, and the adults use pheromones for mating. 
I spotted these Atalas living around the coontie plants bordering an outdoor gym area I use. I had only seen these before at one of my customer's homes. I was really glad because these beautiful little insects have a real challenge to survive and at one time considered extinct. They are thriving at this location. I see more each week. In the last frame you can see an Atala caterpillar. There are also many chrysalises present. Recently I saw a young boy chucking a full water bottle trying to kill the butterflies. I asked the boy why he wanted to kill beautifull butterflies? He ran away, mission accomplished! I will have their back!😉

It's not a bird, a plane or superman. It's an Evergreen bagworm flying on a piece of silk string. Common in winter. Inside this cocoon is a small larva which will transform into a moth. The larvae are usually attached firmly to your homes exterior and difficult to remove.
