A Friend To The Fire Service
Today, the fire service joins millions around the world in remembering Dolly Parton.
Dolly’s connection to firefighters went far beyond words.
Following the devastating 2016 Great Smoky Mountains wildfires, she stepped forward to help the communities she loved. Through her My People Fund, millions of dollars went directly to families who had lost their homes.
But she didn’t forget the firefighters who answered the call.
Dolly later donated $200,000 to eight volunteer fire departments and a regional firefighter training center in Sevier County, helping provide equipment, station improvements, and training opportunities for those who protect their communities.
During the wildfires, Dollywood also helped feed and house firefighters and first responders working the disaster.
Dolly once said it was only fitting that the last of the My People Fund go to “those who were the first to respond to the fires.”
That says a lot about who she was.
Today, we mourn more than an entertainer. We remember a kind heart, a generous soul, and a true friend to firefighters and the communities we serve.
She never wore our uniform, but she understood service, community, and taking care of the people who take care of others.
Rest easy, Dolly. The fire service won’t forget you.
