TROPICAL STORM SAFETY WARNING
Public Safety Notice from Cordele Fire Dept
As a tropical storm approaches our area, Cordele Fire Dept urges all residents to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves, their families, and their property. Severe weather can create dangerous conditions with little warning. Please remain alert, monitor official weather updates, and follow instructions from local emergency officials.
Please observe the following safety precautions:
* Downed Power Lines: Stay away from all fallen power lines and assume they are energized. Never touch a power line or anything in contact with it. Report downed lines to the appropriate utility provider or emergency services.
* Fallen Trees and Debris: Strong winds may cause trees, limbs, and other objects to fall across roadways and damage property. Avoid areas with damaged trees and never approach trees or limbs tangled in power lines.
* Flooded Roads: Never drive through flooded roadways. Water may be deeper than it appears, and the road beneath it may be damaged or washed away. Turn around and find a safer route. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
* High Winds: Secure outdoor items when it is safe to do so, stay indoors during periods of strong winds, and remain away from windows. Falling limbs, flying debris, and damaged structures can cause serious injuries.
* Emergency Response Delays: Hazardous road conditions, fallen trees, flooding, and high winds may delay Cordele Fire Dept, EMS, and other emergency response services. Please use caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and allow emergency crews the time and space needed to operate safely.
Your safety is our priority. Please take this storm seriously, prepare in advance, and check on family members, neighbors, and anyone who may need assistance. Avoid unnecessary risks and call 911 for emergencies.
