If there were a city wide effort in churches to raise funds to provide shelter and food for the homeless, would you be willing to participate?

I know this doesn't answer all questions. I just would like to see your generql response.

It is definitely important now that we help our church members to well manage their God given money. In our Initiatives that is a part of our activity. How to make a budget and how to invest your money as well as a means to give through investments already made. So in generosity campaigns we don't want our church members to think we don't care about their everyday life when we are seeking to raise funds for Church Visions. We can do both successfully. email me at [email protected].

We are living in a difficult time. I hope your congregation is doing well. Often when I mention that to churches they immediately respond to financial matter, mainly whether the church is meeting the budget. But even if it is the bigger question is "how many families are learning to put God first with his money! I am excited to mention that there is a guaranteed plan that is very inexpensive and free if the goal is not achieved. If you would like to hear more I will send you the information. God bless!

The result Covid has had upon the church has been more in the area of annual generosity than it has in other ways. With so many staying home to watch or worship on video the new buildings are not as necessary. There will still be needs for repair and debt removal so that money can be transferred to other ministries. But perhaps the greatest need has always been the building up of disciple so that they are like the Giving God. Our whole goal is to become more like Jesus. To leave out the desire to take on the character of God in generosity is a huge failure on a disciples part. So I will be focusing on annual giving. There is a very spiritual and non offensive way to growing in generosity. The results have been amazing with many churches growing from 20% - 40% growth in annual giving! The materials become yours to use as often as you desire in the particular church. You will see some become first time givers to God with most growing more and more like him in generosity. That is the disciples goal in all of life.

I'm finding that many churches are in need of making disciples into the likeness of God in generosity. I am finding this can be done very effectively online at less cost. Interested? Please let me know.

I was honored to be given the opportunity to participate in a study by Barna and Associates concerning generosity and stewardship among christian churches. The survey went out to two groups. One went to active participating christians in their churches with the results provided. The same survey went to non-active christians and was combined with the active Christians to provide a second chart of survey results (combining active and non-active Christians). Obviously there is not enough space or time to review all 28 questions and results in this blog. However three in particular caught my attention that I would like to share.

The first is, "When making decisions on who / where to donate your money, what is the top motivating factor for you, out of the following items?" Active Christians were asked to choose 3 of the answers. The highest answer, receiving 64% of the responses, was "How passionate I am for the cause". The second highest response was, "How well the organization explains what happens with the donations." Finally, the third highest response was, "How big of a difference my donations will make for the recipients/organization?"

There is much to say and do as a result to this question that time and space will not allow. Having said that I feel compelled to state some. First, your church needs to use a Narrative Budget. Aline item budget is fine for your treasurers but totally not the best for your congregation. The narrative budget rightly changes the payments and usage costs of the facilities and support of your Ministry Team to actual ministries and services. I can't tell you how many times I have heard complaints about these two areas. Narrative budgets provide a clearer and better explanation. Use this in a "Stepping UP" generosity initiative and you will be amazed with the difference and growth.

It should be easy to understand what should be done in regard to the 2nd and 3rd responses. Report what is happening, send thank you's to your contributors with short stories about the results of their generosity. In other words, act like almost all other philanthropic organizations is this regard!!

A second question asked by Barna was, "What would you consider to be the ultimate financial goal in life? Select one." I would like to share the total response from active and non-active Christians, first. The number one response by 37% of ALL responders combined was "To serve God with my money." Compare this answer with the answer by only the Active Christians. Amazingly only 15% of active Christians chose "To serve God with my money"! Eight possible answers were given with the last being "Other". "Other" was the number one response by active Christians at 29% ! The second highest response by active Christians was "Providing for my family at 19%. The third highest response by Active Christians was "To serve God with my money" at 15%. A close 4th response by Active Christians at 13% was "To provide the kind of lifestyle I desire".

Two quick responses. There is a very poor understanding of the use of money as it pertains to discipleship. No responses could be given that would be called "sin" in and of itself. However, all answers must be subject to "To serve God with my money". A second observation is also important. Gone are the days dominated by the "Baby Boomers". Unless we leaders grasp the response I made to question number one as well as this question church contributions will likely lower.

A third question was, "How interested would you be if your church offered preaching and programs to help you achieve financial well-being?" The answer was that 76% of Active Christians would likely be in attendance for these opportunities. I think you know the response to this.

I would be happy to share other questions and answers, review what I have written for better understanding or work with you to make an eternal difference in the lives of your congregants. Email me at [email protected] or call and leave a message at 901-828-0433. God bless.

With the virus going around I Know churches have had to improvise in the way worship is done. But I hope in the near future everyone recognizes that not only do we worship God on Sunday but there is another reason we are called to be together. I have often heard people state that they had their best worship of God under the stars at night while they are alone with God. I have no reason to question this. But why did He call us to come together to worship? Note this verse in the context of Hebrews 10 - "And let us consider one another in order to provoke one another unto love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day approaching." (vs 24-25). Staying at home and watching on video may be the best some are able to do. But to the rest of us, it is going to be extremely difficult to fulfill this command alone.

Please don't be satisfied with "we are doing fine, we are making our budget". Obviously that is better than not making the budget. But your goal is "making disciples", people who take on the character of the Giving God. There is a very Biblical and effective way to do so. It is going to increase your giving significantly without leaving the impression that"the church just wants my money. Contact [email protected]

Covid has had a major effect upon churches in many ways. Some have survived well. Some have survived by not having to pay for building use, etc. Some are not surviving. Maybe your church goals have changed. Maybe you could use a little advice. Just let me know. I will help in any way I can..

Recent studies suggest that many churches made it fine during the pandemic. Others have made it by cutting their spending. Some have failed to make it. You can raise your level of giving based upon a clear and specific vision that the church accepts as its' mission. I love to offer churches a free Vision Assessment so i can guarantee a minimum response. If you can not be successful you obviously want to make some needed changes which the assessment will reveal. Contact me by phone, email or however! Phone is 901-828-0433. Email is [email protected].

It has been a very difficult year for us all. Church dreams have been put on hold. At the same time we have been awakened to new opportunities to worship and serve together. In the same way I have been blessed to learn new ways to work with churches online in order to achieve God given visions. We also have greater opportunities to practice "pure and undefiled religion" (Jas. 1:27). Let's do something great together this year and gain greater rewards!
