Mary Alice McIntire
Mary Alice McIntire, 65, of Corinth, Mississippi, passed away unexpectedly on August 27, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. She was born on April 20, 1961, to the late James Harold Johnson, Sr. and Martha Jean Thrasher Johnson. Up until the last three weeks of her life, Alice was a lifelong resident of Corinth. It was the place she called home, where she grew up, built her career, raised her family, and made countless memories with the people she loved.
Alice graduated from Corinth High School in 1979 and later followed her calling into nursing, graduating from Northeast Mississippi Community College’s nursing program in 1993. She was a gifted and compassionate nurse who truly loved the people she cared for. Psychiatric nursing, in particular, became her passion, and in 1997 she earned her national certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse. She brought kindness, empathy, and understanding to her work, leaving a lasting impression on the many people whose lives she touched.
Alice had a personality that could light up a room. She loved to laugh, loved to tell a good joke, and could often be counted on to bring some humor and fun to a family gathering. Before her health began to limit her activities, she especially loved the holidays, when she would fill her home with the familiar smells of family recipes, cooking and baking the foods that had become part of her family’s traditions. Those recipes—and the memories made around them—will be treasured and carried on by those she leaves behind.
Alice also had a lifelong appreciation for the little things that brought her joy. Her father owned Johnson’s Office Products, Inc. in Corinth, and perhaps because of that connection, she always had a special fondness for a really nice pen, a beautiful journal, or a fresh writing pad. She loved college football, especially her Ole Miss Rebels, and music was never far from her heart. Her tastes ranged from classic rock to anything Jimmy Buffett, with a soundtrack for just about every season of her life.
But above all else, Alice loved her family. She treasured the time she spent with them and was especially devoted to her granddaughter, who brought her a special kind of joy. Her family will remember her not only for the things she loved, but for the laughter she brought, the stories she told, the traditions she kept, and the love she gave so freely.
Alice’s life was not defined by the health struggles she faced in her later years, but by the person she was before those struggles became such a large part of her life: a caring nurse, a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted sister, a woman with a wonderful sense of humor, and someone who knew how to enjoy the people and little moments that mattered most.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Victor McIntire; and her brothers, Hugh Blackman and Jimmy Johnson, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Molly Thornton (Eric); her cherished granddaughter, Maelynn James Thornton; her sister, Susan Ross (Paul); brother, George Johnson; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and many other family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
In keeping with Alice’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Her family will gather privately for a family-only memorial to celebrate her life, share memories, and say goodbye to a woman who was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Though her passing came unexpectedly, Alice leaves behind a lifetime of memories—of family, laughter, music, holidays, good food, football, caring for others, and all the little things that made her uniquely herself. Those memories will remain in the hearts of the people who loved her, and her life will continue through the family and traditions she leaves behind.
