I work with students yearlong navigating through the college application process. I think it’s fun to evaluate course selection and plan out activities and ultimately craft a college list. I love what I do, and I am so happy for my students as they evaluate their options and choose which school is the best fit. The process can be stressful for both the student and the parent because there is no crystal ball, we cannot see the future. Some of my students come in with color coded pros and cons lists and some have a strong feeling about where they think they want to go, while others are so uncertain and don’t know what they want. I love all of this and feel so lucky to work with so many incredible students and their families.
This year’s cycle was extra special and one that I will remember forever. One of my closest friends and neighbors moved from NC to WA four years ago. The time change is awful, but we often talk and walk in the mornings and catch up on life. She has three daughters that I have known since they were very young. I watched the oldest chose a rigorous IB High School program, enroll in college, earn her degree and get an amazing job in Data Science making great money right after graduation. When my friend moved away we talked about which high school would be better, and which classes to take for her younger daughters. The middle daughter was very ambitious and set some really big goals. She wanted to be valedictorian and she wanted a “full ride” to college. These are lofty goals and I voiced my concern and opinion. Classes can be challenging, full rides are extremely competitive and unattainable for most.
Well this season I had a front row seat as I watched that little preschool girl I knew who liked to read and sketch (while the other kids ran around in the cul de sac) get offered interviews and ultimately full ride scholarships at three competitive NC Universities. Imagine turning down a full ride scholarship! Soleil was a finalist for NCSU Park, UNC Morehead-Cain, UNC Chancellors and UNCC Levine. She was offered 3 of the 4 scholarships she interviewed for and made her decision to become a Tar Heel this fall. Felicidades to the Olivera Family who were my neighbors that became my family. I am so incredibly proud and grateful to share in this journey with you.

Our Summer Interns will work alongside our campaign team to support my reelection campaign in North Carolina’s 98th House District. They’ll be part of the day-to-day work, from connecting with voters to supporting events and digital content.

This role is ideal for students looking to build practical political experience, contribute to meaningful work, and be part of a fast-moving team at a critical moment in the campaign.

If that sounds like you, I encourage you to apply!

This is a part-time role with a $750/month stipend. To apply, send your resume and cover letter to [email protected] with the subject line “Summer Internship — [Your Name].”
