Effective detectives detect effectively- investigate beyond victim credibility.

I reported it and spent the next year being investigated. He spent the next year being described as a good kid with a bright future. And I understood then that those two things were not unrelated.

She did everything she was told to do. She spoke up, she came forward, she trusted a system that was supposed to protect her. And in return, her character was picked apart, her story was questioned, and her pain was treated like evidence of her own guilt rather than his.

Meanwhile, his reputation was being carefully wrapped in sympathy and potential, his future protected like something precious while hers was dismantled piece by piece in rooms she was never invited into. That is not a coincidence, that is a pattern so deeply embedded that most people cannot even see it. She saw it. And the moment she did, something in her shifted forever, not into bitterness, but into a bone deep understanding of exactly how the system decides whose story matters and whose does not.

The late Cesar Chavez, one of the nation's most prominent civil rights leaders, has been accused of s*xually abusing girls and women.

Civil rights activist Dolores Huerta said in a statement that she was manipulated and pressured into having s*x with Chavez.

Huerta first revealed her allegations of the s*xual assault to the New York Times, which published an investigation of allegations by her and two other women, who said they were 13 and 15 when Chavez first s*xually molested them.

Chavez, who was Mexican American, is one of the most celebrated and recognized Latinos in modern U.S. history and an inspiration to generations who credit his work with inspiring their own activism and causes. He died in 1993.
