Good morning friends and colleagues.

It’s been a while since I posted one of our many ongoing projects, but this one definitely needed to be shared.

Our amazing Force Demo team is finishing up with the very critical selective demolition removals of the Terminal 4 pedestrian bridge that connects the P4 parking structure to the existing Terminal 4.

The project team spent over six months preparing for this work with planning, engineering, logistics, work plans, pick plans, reshoring, and the major planning for the lane closures of all lanes for arrivals and departure levels to perform these highly critical structural removals with great success.

Our teams had to selectively remove all components of the existing bridge structure that included interior ceilings, floorings, exterior glass partitions, roofing, metal roof decking, concrete structural deck over metal decking, interstitial structural beams to get back to the bridge back to the main skeleton structural members for the crane pick operations.

Once the existing bridge was removed down to the main skeleton frames, we removed the bridge in three night shifts to pick the main components of the structure and bring it down safely in a very, very, short time window in order to get traffic opened up for the daily airport operations.

With all projects, to be successful a lot of time is spent planning for these removals prior to performing the work. I want to give a huge shout out to the project team for bringing this one in safely and on schedule.

"Clearing the way for the Future"

Our amazing field teams have just finished up Phase 1 of another high profile project for our great client Turner Construction.

This project had us performing the complete demolition of the existing 250,000 SF, 5 story parking garage with basement. This structure had to be selectively detached by hand for complete 100% structural separation from the existing hotel and parking structure that is to remain, this also included engineering and reshoring of existing decks prior to major structure demo.

Along with the major demolition of the existing parking structure, our teams removed portions of the existing multilevel hotel suites and cabanas, hotel concrete balconies, pool, site concrete, walls, former high raise structure basement walls and foundations, shoring/lagging, trees and vegetation.

This project had so many critical components for our demo operations, being that this project is right the middle of Beverly Hills, but more importantly at an active high end hotel.

Projects in general take a lot of planning and coordination to make sure we can achieve 100% success as planned, working at an active hotel facility brings a whole another level of preparation and planning to make sure that we do not disrupt their operations, patrons, and staff.

Our teams executed perfectly.

Happy Monday friends and colleagues.

Our amazing field teams just put the finishing touches on Phase 1 for the abatement and complete demolition of 6 each building structures that had to be hand separated from other structures to remain, including all site demo. We had a very aggressive and tight schedule over spring break at our Sunny Sands and Landau Elementary Schools, both schools went at the same time for our demo operations.

These projects as a whole has us performing the total abatement demolition of over 60 each building structures including all site demo in it’s entirety at an active school campus.

Our amazing field teams are making great head way through these monster concrete building structures at an active higher educational facility.

This project has us performing the demolition removals of multiple concrete building structures up to 3-stories with basements in very confined area. Our teams were tasked to perform 100% hand demo separation of the existing structures that are to remain from existing structures to be demolished.

Our amazing Force Demolition field team’s executed perfectly on the total separation by hand, the demolition of the existing 3-story structure with a basement attached to an existing 1-story with a basement structure at a active medical facility.

This project had all the challenges with not only the approx 6’ space between the 3-story structure to demolished and the active 1-story structure to remain. We also were sandwiched between a very heavy traveled roadway and small active alleyway for residents on the backside. Both the existing active medical facility and active roadways of the project had to remain open during demolition.

The existing structure to demolished had to be brought down to existing grade systematically level by level not to overload the basement. This process was to not damage the east, north, and south facing basement walls that is holding existing earth between the two structures as not to compromise the existing 1-story including the active roadways.

As with any project, a lot of planning and preparation goes in to making sure that we can execute these projects safely as planned.

Our amazing field teams in the dark of night had the task of removing 14 Huge Ficus trees approx 60’ tall with a canopy that stretched about the same (Over active sidewalk and approx. 3 lanes of traffic).

These huge tress had to be removed in one, eight shift over a major street and having a small working area under the tree canopies with barley a two lane closure and an active sidewalk canopy for pedestrians.

These trees could not just be ripped over with the heavy equipment due to the Ficus root system being intertwined with major underground utilities. We had the remove these trees top down and not disturb the root system and utilities accordingly.

Once again our Force Demo teams executed the plan safely, precisely, and on schedule to get lanes open by 6 am.

Featured Project:

LAX Delta Terminal 2 FIS project for our great client Hensel Phelps has us performing the very selective and critical selective removals deep within the terminal.

We are performing the very selective demolition removals of all interior fixtures, ceilings, walls, floorings along with selective removals of MEPS in conjunction and adjacent to active live utilities that keep the entire terminal operational.

When performing these critical removals around active live utilities in an active terminal, you have to put a plan in place and execute perfectly to be successful.

“Chipping the way for the Rebuild”

Our amazing field teams have been working non-stop since the emergency debris clean up on the 10 Freeway Alameda Bridge fire.

Our team received the call from Security Paving that they wanted to contract Force Demolition, Inc. to begin the chipping of all compromised concrete columns along this stretch of the 10 Freeway at Alameda.

We have had multiple crews working in conjunction with Security Paving, Cal Trans Engineers and Inspectors to prepare for the repairs of approx. 70 each columns. Our amazing field teams are strategically chipping with rivet buster by way of hand demo of all damaged concrete from these columns up to 4” depth behind existing rebar cages to expose back to sound concrete for new repairs.

“Emergency Response, One Call Does It all"

Our amazing Force Demo field teams knocked it out of the park on the 10 Freeway - Alameda Emergency Bridge fire project.

Our team received the call on Sunday morning at 6 am, within 1 hour we had boots on the ground to assess the situation for removals of all debris. Our equipment began arriving within 2 hours and our teams strategically worked with the CDF arson investigating teams on assisting them with removing debris to help finalize their investigation.

After the investigation was completed our teams were given the go ahead to begin clearing out all debris beneath the compromised bridge structure from the fire to get the reshoring installed.

Within 4 hours of the call Force Demolition had 2 each 100k Volvo Excavators, 2 each Loaders, 6 each Bobcats, 2 each water trucks, and over 25 team members working 24 hours a day for 5 days straight to remove all debris with haul off and disposal in excess of 160 loads.

The amazing work of all the trade partners that answered the emergency call had the clean up performed and finished 2 days ahead of schedule.

Our amazing field teams has begun the structures demolition on this massive project.

This project has us performing total demolition and removals of approx. 160 building structures in excess of 500,000 FT, Approx. 1,300,000 SF of site demo that includes all asphalt and concrete slabs, curbs, site walls, fencing, trees and vegetation over an approx. 7 mile span.
