BSIS instructs applicants to apply before completing their background check. If you apply through BreEZe, you can get fingerprinted after paying your application fee. Paper applicants should follow BSIS’s waiting instructions based on their payment method.

📄 WHERE DO I GET MY FORM?
Visit the official BBS website at bbs.ca.gov → Consumers → Fingerprinting → Forms/Pubs. Download the “Request for Live Scan Submission Form and Instructions.”

✅ BEFORE YOUR VISIT:
• Select the appropriate license type in Section 1.
• Complete and sign your applicant information in Section 3. Make sure it matches your BBS application.
• Leave Section 4 for us to complete.
• Bring your printed form and valid, physical photo ID—no phone pictures or photocopies.

🖐️ VISIT US FOR FINGERPRINTING!
Our experienced team will capture and electronically submit your fingerprints to DOJ and FBI and provide your completed form with your ATI tracking number.

This is one of the MOST COMMON questions we get at our office, and we’re here to clear up the confusion! 💡

❓ Can I use my previous Live Scan for a new job, license, or volunteer position?

👉 Generally, NO! Even if you were fingerprinted last week, last month, or last year, a different requesting agency will typically require a NEW Live Scan.

🔍 HERE’S WHY:

✅ Each requesting agency has its own DOJ-assigned ORI number that identifies where your background check results are sent.

✅ Your results are confidential! They are sent directly to the authorized agency that requested them, not to you or another employer.

✅ Different agencies have different requirements! A background check for a school volunteer may not satisfy the requirements for a professional license or another employer.

✅ Already fingerprinted for another organization? That doesn’t automatically mean your new employer can access those results!

💡 BOTTOM LINE: Your fingerprints may already be on file, but that doesn’t mean your previous Live Scan clearance can be reused by a different organization!
