Sometimes the old ones are worth fixing! New Hub and bearing on this old speed queen is going to give it many more years of reliable service. I would take these old machines over the new washers every time.

I get a lot of questions from customers about why appliances don’t last like they used to. There’s many variables, but this guy does a pretty good job explaining it. Definitely worth a watch if you wanna better understand why the old washer lasted 20 years in a new one barely makes it to five.

Dryers are pretty simple machines. If yours starts sounding unusual or different, you may want to check on it, or have someone look at it for you. This bad roller was caught early, but if ignored it could lead to other problems. This is an easy inexpensive fix that will keep you dryer running for a long time. Had this old Whirlpool direct drive on the schedule today. We don't see too many of these anymore. It is still one of the best washers out there and definitely worth repairing if you have one.

Coming to an appliance store near you.....
I get so many complaints about washers and refrigerators now, I hate to see what the manufacturers have to come up with to meet additional standards. All the Energy savings that they are talking about, will be irrelevant, as the higher cost of repair for these machines is going to offset any Energy savings you would have and then some. This higher cost of repair means more of these units end up going to the landfills and scrap yards as customers many times decide to purchase new vs repair.

The Biden administration proposed sweeping regulations impacting clothes washers and refrigerators in an action it said would create cost savings and reduce pollution.

Just a cautionary note. I received a call from a customer who had smoke coming from their dryer. They shut everything down, and when I got there this is what I found. Luckily they were home, and did not start a load and leave. Some of the wires were burned, and there was lint running up the back vent, as well as inside the heating element. The repair involves splicing in new wires and connections to replace the burnt ones as well as a total breakdown and cleaning of the dryer. The most likely cause is a poorly designed, too long or clogged venting system. Something I see when dryers are vented straight up and out the roof especially on multi-story homes. If you smell anything funny when you're drying clothes, please don't ignore it.
