Need help getting organized? I can help!
I know it's not something we ever really want to think about but have you ever wondered what will happen to all the stuff you've saved throughout your life when you're no longer here? Have you ever thought of the burden you that would be placed on your family by leaving it all behind for them to sort through? Well, I've seen it firsthand time and time again. It's both agonizing and heartbreaking all at once. The thought and act of throwing away items that you once treasured is not an easy task for your family. Especially while grieving. There are two dilemmas. The first is "I have no room for this stuff" and the second is that the items are so old they are not of any use. Below are some suggestions and ideas you may want to ponder.
1. Shadow boxes - Display sentimental items in these for decor. Everyone loves the vintage look.
2. Have a t-shirt quilt or throw made from blankets or clothing that hold value to you. Children's/baby clothes, school/sports attire, etc.
3. Create small totes or cedar boxes for loved ones over time. Placing a few items and photos in each one will allow them to remember and reminisce without the clutter factor. Also, create a box of items you can regularly open and share with your children, grandchildren, spouse, friends, or family. Whether it's old toys, photos, books, baby clothes, knick-knacks, or handmaid crafts. If they are treasures then share your stories about them. Don't hide them away and only look at them every 10 years or so.
4. Have photos digitalized and put on flash drives or DVDs. There are many services that offer assistance with this.
5. Dealing with clutter and unused or broken items in the kitchen and bathroom cabinets, pantries, closets, attics, sheds, and garages is an especially tedious and daunting task but the satisfaction that comes from knowing exactly where everything is and that it is neat, tidy, and organized is literally life-changing.
