I am frequently asked how I got started in this business. So for all of you curious ones.....
I taught school in the private Christian schools for 8 years. After 6 years a brother-in-law introduced the idea of scissor sharpening. I did it for two years part-time and then when I got downsized I went into this full-time. Stylists are much easier to talk to than seventh graders. At the very first I

used a machine that was not optimal for salon shears and I quickly learned the need to upgrade. I built my first flat-hone machine back when that was pretty much a closely guarded secret. Now, 35+ years later I still find people, including my brother-in-law, that think the scissor sharpening business is a non-starter. Sure I don't make doctor's wages
but my time is my own. My family has explored the state with me. I have left them camping on the beach on Lake Superior while I go have fun making money. I have friends that made tons of money working 80 hours a week for generous motors but I am still married after 47 years and my daughters still love me. Do I ever regret going the "way less traveled"? The only regret would be that I didn't know about this years earlier.
