We’re so grateful for the private tour through the with Linda today! Swipe thru the pics to see some of what we saw. These nonprofit gardens consist of 80 acres of a wide variety of beautiful plant species, and they have their very own beekeeper, many hardworking horticulturalists, and friendly volunteer staff aplenty. Their “Art in the Park” event is still going on through the month, with local music, wine, and art available for purchase. 🌱🫶

Mushroom of the month 🍄 "Scarlet Cup."
Doesn't it just conjure up images of royalty or a grand ballroom filled with elegance? Well, this mushroom lives up to its name in every sense - a vibrant crimson goblet nestled amidst the leaf litter of a forest floor, standing out like a beacon of color against the muted tones of the woodland.

Its cup-shaped fruiting bodies can range from a brilliant scarlet red to a deep crimson hue, often with a waxy or shiny appearance. These cups, or "cups of love" as some fondly call them, can be found peeking out from beneath damp leaves or mossy logs during late winter to early spring, adding a burst of color to the drab landscape.

When raindrops fall into the cups, they create a splash that disperses the mushroom's spores, helping them spread far and wide.
AND... they're not just pretty faces; they host their own party of microorganisms!

Within these scarlet cups, a community of fungi, bacteria, and other microscopic organisms thrives. It's like a bustling metropolis within a tiny goblet, where each guest plays a vital role in the ecosystem.

While Sarcoscypha coccinea is indeed a stunning sight, it's not commonly regarded as an edible mushroom. Some sources suggest that it's not toxic per se, but its small size and tough texture don't exactly make it a gourmet delight. So, let's leave these scarlet beauties to adorn the forest floor rather than our dinner plates.

Ken Onyango the director of communications and logistics for Earthfort Africa has been busy being our boots on the ground in Kenya.

He has been facilitating farmer meetings, attending conferences, and meeting with farmers to get Soil Fortify in the ground.

We are sending out thoughts and prayers to all the people who have been affected by floods and heavy rains in the past week in Kisumu. 🤎

Last year, Earthfort got in contact with an amazing women-owned and founded Ag financing company - Good Agriculture. Similar to Earthfort, their goals are for agriculture to be good for both the Earth and Humans. The Good Agriculture team focuses on helping farmers with the financial side of farming. This includes grant writing, bookkeeping, certifications, and increasing your customer market. Agriculture remains an important thread in the US and global economies, however, farmers have limited time and resources to spend on their back-office business function.

"Great farmers should farm - leave the indoor activities to us"
-Good Agriculture

What do they do?
There are several avenues you can take to get started with Good Agriculture. Their most popular service is Funding Finding. They will help you find grants and credits that you qualify for by filling out this quick survey (finding out what you’re eligible for is free!). The best part is they will also help you with the applications! You only pay most of the fee if you win! (Small upfront deposit required.) Other services they provide include managing finances, more customer reach, and certifications.

Why is it important?
Farming can be unpredictable and demanding; from upfront costs on equipment to unforeseen climate disasters, there are no limits to the challenges farmers face. Luckily, with help from Good Agriculture, farmers can decrease their financial risk, manage cash flow and capital, and have access to knowledgeable advisors. The effect of improved financial security goes far beyond the farmer. Grassroots economic growth extends to the surrounding communities. More job opportunities and less poverty creates a positive ripple effect throughout the agricultural value chain. As the world is facing challenges of food security and a changing climate, Good Agriculture is working to support farmers as much as possible through financial security.

Good Agriculture would like to offer our readers 50% off their first month working with them! If you are interested, use this link and mention Earthfort as your referral:
