It was New Year's Eve and I was walking home from a NYE party with my husband, Dan.

I had been running my bookkeeping business for a year and a half and that evening I was feeling a strong urge to set a revenue goal for the coming year (2016).

Up to that point I had kind of been winging it - taking clients as they came to me and appreciating the income but every time I got paid I would immediately pay myself a portion of it and leave the rest in the company for business expenses and taxes.

But that NYE I knew it was time for me to start making some real money that I could rely on.

I set the intention make $50,000 in the coming year.
And you know what happened?

I'll be darned if I didn't make my goal - in fact not only did I make my goal, I hit just over my goal by $160.66 for the year 2016.

I even have the receipts to prove it. (Let's ignore my average hourly rate, shall we?)

I fully believe that not all goals are created equal. But sometimes we feel SO ALIGNED with a goal that we can't help but believe it and see it coming true. And in that commitment to ourselves, we hit our goal - every time.
Maybe this has happened to you?

Goal setting is powerful. But it can't be forced. And it can't be out of fear.

In order to set a goal that you will hit EVERY TIME, it has to have two things:
- It needs to be aligned with some kind of reason.
- It needs to be felt from your heart.

If you have a new bookkeeping business and want to set some goals with us in the BBB Mastermind (these do NOT need to be revenue related!) then I would LOVE to have you join us for the first 6 months of 2024.

Of course while goal setting is great, there is a lot more that goes into running a thriving bookkeeping business that supports you and your lifestyle.

Here's an overview of how the mastermind works:
Each month I will release a new lesson (the first lesson drops tomorrow) and you will have two weeks to watch the lesson and do the accompanying homework. Then during the third week of the month we'll come together to review the month's topic, discuss the homework and how everyone is feeling/doing with the given topic.

The month's topics are as follows:
- Month 1 we kick off with THE BIG PICTURE
- Month 2 is more on the practical side where we discuss Client Management.
- Month 3 we talk about MONEY!
- Month 4 we look at your businesses practices.
- Month 5 is about honing your bookkeeping skills
- Month 6 we talk about one of my favorite subjects - Letting it be EASIER.

Each month is designed to meet folks where they're at, whether they're just starting out and don't have any clients yet or if you've been in business for a year or two and want to take things to the next level.

If you'd like to join the other folks who are signed up for the mastermind - here is the link: https://www.brassjacks.com/course/bookkeeping-business-blueprint-1

I led a 1 1/2 hr workshop on Monday, Bookkeeping 101 for Entrepreneurs. It was ground level, just starting out content.

I remembered what it was like when I first started my business and how everything feels... well, unknown!

So we talked about everything I could think of to help you make sure your bookkeeping is in order.

Here's a taste of what we covered:

- The EASIEST way to make sure you don't miss any expenses
- What accounting programs are available (and what I recommend)
- Receipt storage
- Invoicing vs Sales Receipts
- How to enter an owner payout
- What's an income statement
- What the heck is depreciation
- what is reconciling
- plus lots of other good stuff

I'm also in the process of recording some additional “how-to” training videos and I’m going to hold a follow-up Office Hours in the coming weeks.

If you started a business or are THINKING about starting a business but aren't sure about the bookkeeping side of things, rest assured, I got your back.

You can snag the pre-recorded workshop for just $25 at https://jackierockwell.com/bookkeeping101forentrepreneurs/

And the rest of the content will be made available soon.

Enjoy!! 😘
